I also think the Red wings had 5 lefties and 1 rightY atone time
I would trade postma
Yeah, I'm all for Jones (I think there's almost a 0% chance we draft that low though) if he's really the best guy available and I agree, I would definitely trade Postma in that situation.
Postma has looked good and is looking like he's improving which hopefully increases his value as I'm almost positive we'll have to move him at some point.
Trade Postma???!!! Whyyy?? I can't understand!
Why We cant trade Clitsome, Hainsey, Stuart and then draft some lefty dmen. Maybe some LHD vet to play with Young RHD and waiting for develop LHD youngsters!?
Okey! Lets trade everybody...

I think this is working under the assumption that we draft Jones. Jones is probably more NHL ready than Postma right now. I wasn't sold on him at the beginning of the year but I am now. He good.

also someone woulda ctually give us something for postma, not the case for clitsom. hainsy would be a FA.

It's because Postma potentially has more value to someone else than he does to us. I'm not advocating trading him for no reason, I think he's a good player. I just think he's an expendable valuable asset.
He's a right-handed powerplay specialist. We have two righties in the system (Byfuglien and Bogosian) and Trouba on the way that can all fit that role. However, there's plenty of teams out there looking for that type of defenseman. Postma won't be able to shine with the amount of depth that's above him on this team.
Clitsome has zero trade value. We acquired him as a waiver claim and his value since then has not gone up. It's potentially gone down even.
Hainsey has some value, but he's a UFA after this season. I'm almost hoping we resign the Hains as it's not looking like many options that are better will be available to us. I'm not saying trade Postma right this second, I'm saying next season, or the one after. Stuart also fills his role well enough as a bottom pairing guy, he's playing out of his depth right now and I don't imagine we'd acquire very much for him.
This means Postma is the guy we could look to trade high on and the team likely wouldn't suffer any setback.

That is only if we land Jonesor or McKinnon, wishful thinking
The way we are going now we have a chance it hurts when the jets loses, I don't even read the post after a lost right away. So I just look at it on the brighter side, McKinnon, Trouba, barkov, Drouin ( he is left wing though ) monahan and lindholm. All Blue chips... it might be the missing piece the jets needed.
I am not the gm, but if I am, and we get to pick number one.. I would definitely pick McKinnon
After 2 years we can be solid and I think will have a chance to go deep.
We will have solid 1,2,3 in center McKinnon, schiefele, burmistrov
Left wing is solid also Kane, Ladd, Lowry
Right wing wheeler, little, ufa solid vet Elite Pk
4th will be 4th
Enstrom byfuglien
Xxx(missing piece) bogosian
Redmond Trouba
As the management said if they see the jets are close I think they will fire the trigger and get the ufa the team needs.
It will surely need lots of luck and good management skills to make this happen because it's easier said than done.
Part of me would want MacKinnon, but I honestly think the JETS would take Jones and I would have no problem with that. If Jones was taken by the JETS, that's when they'd likely start shopping Byfuglien.
It would be kind of interesting to see what teams slot in the #3 - #6 range and how much they'd be willing to overpay if the top pick was perhaps available.
I would almost for sure make the pick, but it would be kinda fun to entertain some offers and still land a Monahan or Lindholm along with 2 or 3 other prime assets.

Lots of hockey left to be played though.
I do not like the changes being made to the draft lottery. I thought the previous system was very fair. There is no way a team just missing the playoffs should have any chance to draft first overall. The teams struggling the most need to be helped the most.

Ha ha...watch Detroit miss out on the playoffs by a tie-breaker or 1 point and then get #1.

Could very well happen, but I would suspect that the odds will still greatly favor the worse teams. You won't hear me complaining if it were the JETS that narrowly miss the playoffs and then win the lottery to pick #1 though.

As far as I know they didn't change the ODDS of the top 14 teams of winning the draw. I.E. Whatever the slight chance in the old system that team 14 had is the same slight chance as now (probably like 1% or something). The only difference is that in the old system if the 14th team won they would be picking 10th. Now they would pick 1st.

I could be wrong though.
The odds of the 17th place team is .5% chance (200 to 1) and the odds of the 30th place team is 25% chance (4 to 1).

I am still leaning towards MacKinnon. He is a beast and yes, Jones is better now, but he is also almost a full year older than MacKinnon. An elite #1 C > another RHD
I'm a little late with this one (made Jan 31, 2013), and I totally missed the last one... sorry guys. Here is the nhlnumbers.com top50 using a combination of a bunch of sources:
Quote:
The sources for the consensus list are Bob McKenzie, Future Considerations, ISS, Ryan Kennedy, Craig Button, Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus, and The Scouting Report. Their rankings are weight by their accuracy in ranking previous drafts: Bob McKenzie's rankings carry the most weight as he's the most accurate prognosticator in the group.
The Scouting Report has yet to release their mid-term rankings, last year they were already out at this time...that's probably my favourite site, they have actual scouting reports to justify their rankings, not the randomness of Craig Button who moves guys around for no reason other than to stir the pot.

Re Button: Agreed... He's a bit of a tool. Since the rankings are weighted to their tendency to be accurate my guess is his weighting was very little...
Re Scouting Report: I only started checking them out last season and I liked them. We'll see how they affect the consensus list once their rankings come out.

Meh... things will change and fluctuate.. Lazar and Compher both moved down, so maybe you'll be right and that trend will continue as more rankings come in to adjust the placements. Opposite is true with Gauthier and Zykov.
I'm really liking Zadorov a lot. Even if his game is London Knight inflated a little bit. A big mean rear guard who is happy to play in his own zone first and foremost. That is a bit of a forgotten art in today's game with all the attention being given to PMD who produce at high levels offensively but leave a bit to be desired in their own zone.
Did a single first rounder from Button's tenure with the Flames turn out? If he was good at drafting players, he'd be doing that instead of making lists for TSN.

Well he was the only 3rd party scout to have Sutter in the second round hahah

Yeah, Don't see Lazar going that high. He will be a gem for some team in the late 1st round or if he gets to the 2nd round. He's definitely having a down year after his big year last year, but he has all the intangibles to have a long successful career. He's very Mike Fisher like.
