Preds sign Cody Franson

This kid's stock is rising ever-higher. Poile thinks he's getting closer to 6'5 than 6'4. They've issued a challenge to him to find the edge in his game, and he seems up to the task.

We have finally reached the Plethera mark for young Defensemen signed Hamhuis, Suter, Weber, Klein, Parent, Franson, there is an good 6 blueliners for this team. Now all we have to do is sign Delmore or Allison as coaches to teach them how to play defense

You know what, I remember when we drafted this kid we were all thinking....Okay...another defensemen, he has size, but he hasn't done much with it. At the time, our scouts were saying they thought the kid had a ton of raw talent. This year he was throwing it all together, and if the Weber connection is there, this guy could be a great pick for us. I'm literally excited about him, moreso than I probably am with Kevin Klein just because of the potential. If he develops that edge and steps up to the challenge Poile and the rest of the Pred staff have issued him, he could be a very good NHLer!

Imagine in 5 years the balance we'll have on each line

Hamhuis-Weber
Suter-Parent
Franson-Klein

I remember being excited about Franson at camp. In fact hipcheck, 303 and I all were commenting on his play.

I have watched Cody for the last few years here in Vancouver with the Giants.

Let's just say that his improvement in play has been simply amazing, and his stats speak to that fully. Leader and total threat offensively and extrememly sound defensively. PP specialist without a doubt, and pinches down from the point at all the right times to generate extra offense on the PP.

A very good skater, and his passing is simply great. More than a few scouts figure he is the best passer in the entire CHL, and that comment has been bantered about in the press by scouts on more than one occasion. His ability to get that first outlet pass out of his own zone is something to watch.

If he has one "weak" area in his game it is his physical play. But even that has begun to improve over the course of last year, and really started to come thru doing the playoffs this year. I think finally Cody has realized he is 6'5" 200lbs+ and he is starting to use that size to his advantage. Probably also didnt hurt that more than a few people were telling him to ramp up the "physical" play.

You all got a real steal in Cody for a 3rd round pick, he will be an allstar, if he continues to improve like he has.

In case you didn't know Cody has also been invited to Canada's World Junior Summer evaluation camp, personally I figure he is a lock to make the team.

I think Cody is already a better passer than most NHL defensemen.

It really is amazing how the Preds have managed to draft all of these top defensive prospects. Glad to see Franson join the crew!

Perhaps because (as in another thread on here) we can't develop offense?
