I know Toni has played really well this year but what can we realistically expect to get for a trade from him this year?

If he plays well, I think he'd fit right in the broad category of defenseman that tend to get traded for 2nd round picks or resembling prospects at the deadline. But it's a very good draft year, so teams might be a little more hesitant with these deals.

With the shortened season, there might however not be a ton of teams that consider themselves out of the playoff race by the deadline. That would mean less teams selling and more buying, helping the price. There's always the option of trading him for a forward in a similar situation on his team. It'd would probably be easier to realize in seperate moves.

Either way, I think it's too early. Things are looking decent, and the reason defenders like Lydman get acquired by good teams at the deadline a lot is that defensive depth can't be underestimated. For now, there's no way to be sold that we actually have more than sensible depth. Injuries are going to happen (hopefully, they haven't struck already in regards to Fowler), etc...

If we keep winning like we are he is not a piece I want traded at the deadline.

Yeah the idea of trading Lydman has faded from my wishes as well, although I still think there's a good chance he is moved. I don't want to see Lydman moved for a 2nd rounder unless we are completely out of it and have no desire to re-sign him. I will take the depth personally.

I wouldn't read too much into it but we have scouts at the Panthers - Sabres game. So do several other teams though.

So why are we scouting the Florida game? Are we looking at Weiss? And if so what would we offer? He would be pretty damn good for our 2c role

Meh we'd have to offer more than I'd want to, which is a 2nd rounder. I want to keep the young guys in our farm system at the moment and not waste any of them for a guy who is gone by July.

We are not bound for a serious cup run IMO, so no need to waste assets.

I'd think more for the Sabres. We aren't trading for a potential ufa.

I'm hoping IF there is a trade it's a minor league deal. I have faith in this team this year. We have youth! Scoring from all 4 lines! I'm super excited this year. I think we are gonna have a serious playoff push this season. Sooo stoked! 7 goals man! 7 last night! Yessss

Obviously considering there are scouts from a ton of teams there somebody is probably available. As I said I wouldn't read too much into it even if we were looking at somebody specific chances are so is everybody else there and I doubt we get involved in any bidding wars.

Anyone here that doesn't want Weiss is loco.
With having Weiss and Getz up the middle sure would make a great 1-2 punch up the middle.
Especially with Teemu more then likely retiring it would be nice to have Getz/Perry then Weiss/Ryan on the 2nd line.
I just don't know what we would have to give up to get him.
DSP
Bonino
Rakell
2013 2nd if he resigns, 3rd if he does not.

Florida clears some salary and gets 3 young players in return as well as at least a 2nd rounder.

I'm not giving all that up for Weiss. Not worth it IMO. We have to many UFA's as it is. And not enough money to go around for all 3 players. I would pass on Weiss if it was that being asked for.

That's a horrible trade. Getzlaf isn't signed, Koivu isn't signed, Holland hasn't proven he can play at the NHL level and you're going to give away the only 2 signed centers we have for ANOTHER UFA center? Not to mention Edmonton has our 2nd so that would be the Islanders 2nd you're giving away.

A 1st line player like Perry will usually get a top 6, mid-high prospect and a late 1st. There's no way anyone gives them all that for a 2C, and there's honestly probably not enough quality to get them to bite anyway - their entire team is already made up of 2nd and 3rd liners.

Don't want to trade Rakell. That guy has shown sick potential as a 19 year old. Wins draws, responsible defense, sick hands. Would not trade him...

You know Weiss is an upcoming UFA right?

Standard rate for a guy like that at the deadline is a 1st + good prospect. Not two good prospects who have both already got their feet wet in the NHL, a 3-4C and a pick.

Hopefully Bobby can handle the 2C duties (he's looked great offensively there but he'll need to learn the defensive side of playing C and improve on the dot. It's very doable though).

And even if Bruce wants to remove Bobby from the 2nd C, I'd much rather give Holland a shot than ship out a whole bunch of young talent for Weiss.

I'm fine with trading for Weiss IF the intent is to re-sign him. Don't want to give up a bunch of assets for a rental. If we are, might as well target someone like RoR

Or a top 6 prospect and a high first in my eyes, arguable of course.
