Just watched my first superbowl...

...And is it customary to hand the trophy to the owner first (or was this a one time thing)? Doesn't feel right at all .

Kind of stupid isn't it, but yes normally the owner gets their mitts on it first. The only exception is the G.B. Packers who are owned by the city/fans.

I think the President of the Board normally gets their mitts on it first when the Packers win.

In sports league in US/Canada. Only NHL and MLS give the Trophy to the Captain first.

Superbowl is not real playoffs when the series are 1 game matchups.

Imagine if the SCP were 1 game series, 4 wins to the cupl haha.

And whats with the lame confetti? Is this a birthday party?

the trophy doesnt have the same meaning it has in hockey.

the players win the "super bowl", which is the name of the game.
the organization wins the "lombardi trophy"

The NFL also parades the players holding the trophy for glamour shots before the game is even played. Hockey players tend not to touch or look at the Stanley Cup until they've won it.

This.

Players are essentially after Superbowl Rings, not the Lombardi.

Kind of weird but if that is how they have done it in the past it's their way of doing it.

Football forum will have a thread "I just watched my first Stanley Cup Final match..."

Stanley Cup is completely different.

In the Super Bowl you play to win the game, not to win the trophy.
Where in Hockey the talk is more about winning the Cup.

It's a different view on the trophy.

Sounds pretty lame to me. No sport will compare to hockey. Winning 4 games in the NFL playoffs is hardly worthy of much

Also: in the NFL, you win the "Lombardi Trophy", but it's not the same trophy every year. When you win it, the organization gets to take it home with them and keep it forever, and they make a new one every year for the next Super Bowl winner.

There's no "giving it back when you're done with it so that the next team that wins it can have it" culture like there is in the NHL.

Dear NFL,

What are we going to do with all the red and gold confetti?

Yours,

The Louisiana Superdome

If the NFL playoffs were 7 game series, the playoffs would last over half a year.

It's just not feasible to play more than one game per week in football. The entire team would get injured.

Football is for people with a small attention span. Thats why most hardcore NFL fans always think NHL playoffs being 2 months long is too long. When 2 months playoffs is the real way to win a championship, not 1 game winner takes all.

Considering how few games the football season is and how short the "playoffs" are, yeah the Super Bowl is pretty lame. Even a 48 game season is more intense. I'll take hockey any day thanks. Football is the ultimate short attention span sport.

You do realize they play football once a week, at every single level, right? If they had a series to determine winners in the playoffs, it would last about 4-6 months... for the playoffs.

Yeah, because you honestly can compare the two. If the NFL had 2 months of playoffs with 4 rounds of 7 game series there would be so many injuries that they would be sporting a High school level team. One game is the best scenario and works so well. The best overall team always wins it in the end. The physicality in football is unmatched in the top 4 pro sports, and as a result it has the greatest amount of injuries. Honestly the format must be working for them...I think the NFL made more money on today than the NHL makes in a complete 82 game season.

Some massive generalizations being thrown around. Don't like football? Don't watch football.

Do hockey fans have some sort of inferiority complex? I frequently see people complain about basketball, football, and baseball on these boards. I'm pretty sure people who consider themselves primarily fans of one of those other sports does not spend a moment wringing their hands about hockey, and arguing how their sport stacks up in comparison.
