3 sisters and one brother in law--all Leaf fans went to the game on my tickets. Comments--the Sabre defence is embarassingly bad...I watched on tv with my son and my stomach was in knots. Blown easy chances to score then horrible defensive lapses. This talent IS better than we are seeing--yes I believe. But they do not seem to think so--they are a fragile team with only about 6 or 7 players showing what got them to the nhl. I know Ruff cannot score their goals or play defence--but what the hell is a coach for if not to get the best out of his players? And if the concensus is that he is not?

There is one "good" in this. Sabres lost, thus increasing the probability of Ruff being canned.

I would not be disappointed if we lose our next 10 as long as HPV continues to beast and feast and maybe at the end of it all, they fire Ruff.

The only thing that you can blame Regier for is not firing Ruff. Otherwise he has done a good job.

VHP (surprise), Weber hardly noticeable (does his job), Scott, Miller has his moments. Ehrhoff being Ehrhoff.

B
Sekera injury, Regehr injury, Ruff, this team.

IF the team hadn't been playing the way it had so far this season, this game wouldn't look so bad. Second of a back-to-back, they looked great for more than half the game. They got shellshocked after giving up the tie and probably were missing their legs a bit in the 3rd to boot.

The fact that secondary scoring opportunities were there in spades to blow this game open before Florida got back in it can be seen either positively or negatively. Ennis, Grigorenko, and Foligno each had a prime opportunity to score. Myers probably would have gotten one if Foligno didn't cut the chance off. Being that none of these guys have been producing, we're inclined to look at that negatively which goes to my leading statement: This game would not look so bad if not for how this season has gone so far.

Myers-Brennan looked at least better than Leopold-Myers. Myers especially looked a bit more comfortable. Get Regehr and Sekera back, bench Leopold, and perhaps from there the pieces for 3 working pairs can be arranged. Ruff needs to treat Leopold as his #8 defenseman until something happens to change that. He's just plain hurting the team. I'd rather see Pardy called up than playing Leopold next game, regardless of what that does to Rochester for the rest of the season.

Because he has put us in decent position to be solid down the road (with obvious needed improvements to the D depth in terms of nastiness/toughness).

This wasn't supposed to be a year in which we made a deep playoff run. What I wanted to see, though, was a team that entertained me with effort and enthusiasm, and didn't get outworked.

It's pretty clear a change behind the bench is needed at this point.

It was pretty obvious they ran out of gas towards the latter part of the second period. They were playing their third in four nights against a team that hadn't played since the Thursday before. It would still have been very nice to have held on.

It had nothing to do with playing "the system."

The good news is that given the lockout, this is a good season to write off to gaining experience and continuing the rebuild.

Our defense has **** the bed.

I was out of town but managed to catch the game. Seemed like a typical Sabre game for this season -- one line with much of any pressure, lots of d-zone breakdowns, a questionable goal against from Miller. 1-5-1, it seems this is the formula for successfully getting into the MacKinnon/Drouin/Jones sweepstakes.

Sadly, we know better. Miller will get hot again at some point, Stafford/Foligno/Ennis will remember how to find the net, and we'll begin our march to the 10th-13th draft slots.

Miller was pretty bad. I'm beginning to wonder if he literally has no confidence in the defense in front of him and he's already got his mind made up that the other team is going to score goals... So he lets in easy ones.

It's mind boggling to watch.

Vanek looks like a man on a mission. Too bad that noone is joining him. he will probably end up as one of the few players who never win the cup because of his loyality.

The sabres are so far away from being cup contenders. firing ruff would be a step forward, of course.

Vanek is loyal? I'd bet he jumps ship to the highest bidder at the end of next year (and I don't blame him). He didn't negotiate with Buffalo last time around, and Darcy expected the offer sheet because of that.

He and Ruff have always had a suspect relationship, and Lindy "ain't going anywhere."

Yes, he is. I expect him to stay with the Sabres. The only other option would be Minnesota.
I also expect a contract extension as soon as his extension window opens.

As for the GBU:

G:

VHP
Weber doing his job and playing a quiet and solid game. Ehrhoff was okay as well.

B:

All others, especially Ennis - he must score on at least one of that opportunities he had. Grigo too, but I got less expectations from a rookie.

U:

20 shots ...
Ruff yet again folding his arms.

To be fair, Buffalo FO had a policy of not negotiating during the season.
Great policy. Good stuff.

Well, at least they're tougher.

All those who thought selling secondary scoring for grit was the way to go, how's that working out?

I'm curious, why do people think this? The only thing that I have to go on is the last time he was RFA. If I recall, he wanted to test the waters... as a RFA, and waited for an offer sheet instead of negotiating a deal.

Believe me, I'm not holding this against him. I firmly believe that all of us should do what's best for our families and careers.

He's moved from Austria to the US to build a career in hockey. He put negotiations with Buffalo on hold in order to leverage one of the most controversial contract practices in the NHL. Now something has changed and we know with certainty that he's tied to Buffalo NY, or perhaps the Minnesota Wild?

He's a great player and I like having him on the team, but I don't buy it.
