Now he embellished it? really?

Go look at the link you posted and watch the video. Ref had his hand up before Gionta could even THINK about getting up.

but on that play another devil was holding an islander for a good 10 seconds, i would say they deserved a penalty on that play and even though the wrong penalty was called the isles still deserved the power play

They scored their first goal on the PP after that horrible call didn't they?

At least thats what I thought after seeing the highlights on NHLN this morning (and all afternoon).

Unless you are talking about the islanders PP.

That's not how it works.

I can point to dozens of times the Devils or the Islanders 'deserved' a powerplay because the other team did something wrong. Only times they actually do get a powerplay is when the ref decides to call it.

So if I can point to a hook or hold on that play, you think Strait should have been called for charging because the Islanders deserved a penalty EVEN THOUGH he obviously didn't do anything wrong?

As much as that was a piss poor call on strait....that's play with tavares and Larsson was brutal and isles deserved to lose. Played flat and had too many power play chances. The minimal chances they got hedberg stood on his head. Devils deserved that game and I blame it on the black jerseys of death

Not sure how you can complain when your team goes 0-7 on the PP. I guess Larsson standing still and JT running into him and flopping is "debatable". Good riddance

Awful call at a critical time.

Doesn't matter if the Isles were 0-20 on the PP.

This explains why the Islanders didnt deserve to win the game. They got badly outplayed despite having 4 more pps

It was a Brutal call. It was not embellished however . How do you expect Gionta to react when a guy bigger then him hits him very hard ?

Not sure what's worse, the quality of that video or the quality of that call.

Clearly some new mandate came down about charging, goaltender interference and boards, but these guys need to get on the same page. I've three times now seen guys destroyed the the numbers with no call and 8 times seen guy throw harmless hits to the chest and sit for boarding or charging.

But whoever accused Gionta of diving here is nuts. He's a small guy who took a hard, legal hit by a much bigger guy. He's gonna fall in that situation.

I've never understood it when fans complain about calls when their team ends up with more powerplays anyway in general.

Only time I ever get upset at calls is when the ref is letting everything go, but then suddenly they call my team on something that the other team has been doing all game.

I think some people take it the wrong way. Its singling out this one call and saying that it was a horrible call...which in turn resulted in a powerplay, bc its a penalty, which in turn lead to the devils scoring the GWG. It has nothing to do with the previous 56+mins of hockey.
Isles looked sloppy on their 7 PP's, and the Devs got a nice bounce on theirs, Hedberg and Nabby both were very solid for the most part, berniers second goal was a bit sloppy. Devils did outplay the isles, but both teams had spurts. Kovalchuk needs to watch those long passes along the blue line too.

Bad call. If Gionta wasn't such a shrimp there wouldn't have been a penalty.

dust off and suck it up. A ton of bad calls will be made this year because they want more powerplays. Deal with it.

yes, when the islanders go 0-7 on the power play, the refs clearly handed the game to the devils.

seriously...

obviously the devils deserved the win. goalie(s) and pk were phenomenal.

But it was a bad call. Only devils homers will say otherwise. really not much to discuss here.

Devils fans aren't saying it wasn't a bad call, just that we don't feel bad about it.

The call was horrible but when your a wretched 0-7 on the PP you got no excuse. Bad call and the team probably deserved a point but **** happens isles got a generous call earlier in the game.. It just sucks this one had a direct impact on the final score. Next time cash in on one of your damn PP's and you won't have to worry about it.

Don't expect you too.. This kind of crap happens I'm sure we'll benefit from one of these calls at some point at the season. Only thing to do is suck it up and get em next time.
