Not that Zib wouldn't be great to add, tho...
But we also needed another goalie. And Lehner is the best goaltending prospect in hockey. He's only 21 and already won Calder Cup and AHL playoffs MVP title. This year he posted 0.946 SV% and 1.86 GAA in 25 AHL games.
We still could trade Methot to Ottawa or any other team with defensive problems. Look around the NHL - a lot of teams are missing quality NHL defensemen right now. This is a good market for the teams with deep defensive core like the Jackets.
Not that I dislike the Rangers trade, especially after Detroit game. And thanks for the cookie though

There is a contradiction here. A goaltending prospect and a NHL goalie are not the same thing. We have tons of the former, and were a tad limited on the latter. And goaltending is just way too damned volatile to take that kind of "he might step in" risk, especially in exchange for one's franchise player.

And there weren't all that many forwards available for defensemen when the trade was going to happen.

Lehner would be nice to have, but trading for him is IMO a mistake.

I'd put it this way. Ottawa's package had higher ceiling. The Rangers' package brought more established players. I doubt that potential of whoever will be drafted with the Rags pick would be higher than Zib's or Lehner's.

Holtby is not a prospect any more. And the only one who could pretend to be the one is Markstrom... BTW:

True. And yet, established players - in particular, established players who could both contribute on the ice AND help kick around lazy ***** when folks go into "Same Old Jackets" depression mode - were exactly what we needed much more of.

Besides, we already had LA's pick with which to continue to add futures, so that wasn't as much of an issue.

And on a side note, for those of you for whom the Dispatch paywall became an issue...

The Dispatch's new mobile site for smartphones does not have a paywall. http://mobile.bluejacketsxtra.com
And yeah, you don't need a mobile device.

Given how much I hate all the crust on the full size site, this makes me quite happy indeed.

HF Article on Newell Brown's Son

Apparently, Ron Tugnutt was pretty important to at least one young goaltender's future successes:

I wish he was seeking his 120th goal, instead.

I disagree. Boll has also been an excellent forward this year. He's really valuable to this team

It'll get pulled eventually so I capped it and posted it to B-rakers for posterity.

Interesting note:

A thread on the mains discussing worst D in the NHL. Two pages and not a single mention of the CBJ.

Gotta be the first time there is a discussion of anything worst and we are not mentioned.

Just saying

Clearly every one already KNOWS the worst D is the jackets, they're just arguing about who is the next worse.

So the Jackets had an optional skate/practice yesterday. Hopefully they have a real one today.

I know the schedule is compressed, players need rest, yada yada, but they had a day off before the Calgary game and 2 days before playing Edmonton.

It seems to me they could have put in an hour and a half or so for a real practice Friday morn.

In another thread building a culture was discussed. I think this is part of it. With Wis and Aucoin out with injuries, it is mostly young guys (and the oldest 30 year old in the league) -I think they could have practiced.

Gotta give Wiz credit, he really wants to play and win.

From a fan's standpoint, as well as just being a human being, I hope he doesn't get anymore concussions...
