Here's to hoping Powe becomes our next Prust...

PK, grit and able to chip in a few goals.

So, this was a fleece job?

2 for 1 when we only had to give up Rupp sounds good to me.

This is as close to a fleece job you'll get for bottom 6 players. Rupp is finished.

Awesome trade. This is great news. Hope to see the bottom six become an important part of the team now that we have some tenacity and speed.

Will Palmieri get his cup of coffee?

Just got out of a long meeting and come back to my desk to see this story, and my jaw dropped. This is an amazing deal for us!

First off, Powe is exactly what we need, and is like a natural Ranger. He should fit in immediately. He can play both wing and center, giving us instant added depth. He also is the type of player that can give that energy spark, that others feed off of. We need as much of that going around as possible right now. Our PK has also suffered, and he is an immediate asset to that unit. How has no one mentioned that he was #2 in shots blocked last year where Cally was #3? Yes, we just added a player who without even being in NY, already blocked more shots than Cally did. Think about that...

And Palmieri, for as bad a rap as he has, also has a huge upside. This is likely his last chance, and if anywhere was the right place for him to land to make the most of that chance, it's here. I've got a good feeling about him, and think he's gonna work his butt off and prove all his critics wrong. He is solely in charge of his own destiny. If he makes the most of the opportunity, he can end up absolutely becoming a loved and valuable member of our team.

I will also say that though I can't say I'm 'sad' to see Rupp go, I will say that I did like him tremendously as a person and player, and that though he may not have worked out here in the ways we had hoped, he will always have my respect and admiration and I absolutely wish him the best.

But to come out of the meeting to see this news? Can't remember the last time I was this excited about a mid-low level type of trade.

I remember an interview with Giants coach Tom Coughlin - they asked him about the common excuse when a coach has been around one team for a long time that "sometimes the players reach a point where they need to hear the message from someone new". His response (paraphrasing): "I don't believe in that - sometimes the coaches reach a point where the people listening to the message need to be changed as well...so instead you surround yourself with people who won't get tired of listening to your message and keep tweaking so that it's always fresh to someone".

Palmieri has already ruined his reputation in New Jersey and Minnesota - I think he basically has one more shot (most because he IS that talented), but I wouldn't count on him making it happen, especially since GM Lou's specialty is evaluating hockey character. Heck, even got Kovalchuk to drink the Devils Kool-Aid.
Yeah, but the competition nowadays are extremely tough outside the top 12-15 players on a NHL roster. Alot of it comes down to picking the cog that fits your exact need, and many hard working good players are not picked because the rest of the machinery fits someone else better.

Palmieri needs to pin a ton of things down to be a top 2 line player, but just because he couldn't make the top 4 lines at one place it doesn't mean he can't make the top 4 somewhere else.

For us I think he is backup -- and we certainly need that. NO MORE below avg D as fourth lineer BS I hope.

I am excited about Powe, hopefully he is what I hoped we would get from Asham.

But I want too see it first. Lot of players out there not skating as well as they did last season...

If there is a market I could see Asham going soon too. Might we ask for a third rounder?

Holy cow, what's not to like?

I was always a Rupp defender - and expected him to pick it up this season. But his skills have clearly declined and, more to the point, Torts clearly didn't trust him much anymore.

Always liked Powe as an energy/PK guy for the Flyers. And he saves cap space. And I've wanted us to go for more Princeton players. AND we get a kid with upside to boot?!?!?!

Hell, I would've added to Rupp to get Powe!

Im not ready to move Asham yet. Dont think he has really been given much of a fair shake, considering how little he has played.

Though if Miller and Masher play well, it certainly would make sense to move him.

This is way better than the Arnott signing would've been.

Seems like we have a lot of trouble bringing in tough gritty vets Brashear, Boog, Scott, Rupp maybe Asham soon. When we try to go the same route only younger it seems to work better

Good luck to Rupp in Minnesota and thanks for winning us the Winter Classic.

Looking forward to seeing Powe's game. I vaguely remember him on Philly and he was kind of a *******.

Hopefully Powe can replace some of what left with Prust. The bottom 6 has been missing that edge, that nastiness combined with acceptable skating ability to keep up with the play.

I don't think Rupp was hurting us or that he was playing bad. We got younger and quicker though.

EDIT: Ironically Powe will wear #8, Prust's old number.

Holy hell. I go to class and come back 3 hours later and the team has completely remade 25% of it's forward group.

Like the deal. I've soured on Rupp this year. Not due to his skating or lack of puck skills, but rather due to his lack of sense in timing his fights.

Powe sounds like he will fit right into what Tortorella preaches. A flier on Palmieri is nice (although we could have had him for free two weeks ago).

His two (2) fights must have been very poorly timed then.

I'd say we still got him for free. It was a two-for-one deal. The main player on the other side was Powe. So I'd say Palmieri was still acquired for "free".
