Le Canadien is the proper way to call the team according to how the club's complete name plays out (Le club de hockey Canadien de Montréal). However most fans and especially anglophone fans, took to calling them Les Canadiens, wich is also fine.

Official team name is "Canadiens" though, so it implies "Les".

IMO, Les Canadiens is the right way to say it, Le Canadien just sounds cool

"Les Canadiens sont fiers d'annoncer blablabla"

Le Club de Hockey Canadien

Why is this a topic?

Now I think about it, I've mostly referred to the team as "Le Canadiens" but I'll try calling them "Les Canadiens" instead.
