Ha. I am the commissioner of my league with a bunch of my friends. A few know more players in depth and the rest are fair-weather fans that know players but won't know the sleeper picks. But anyways I only have Benn going tonight and my friend has 7 players total going and the score (which tonight is the start of the week) is currently 6-3 him. But not bad when I only have 1 guy going.

I think it's really cool how the Oilers players walk right through the arena concourse to get to and from the locker room.

I don't know, I think the west a different beast and vice versa with the East. IMO the East has grittier teams, the games are tighter, less open space. Of course depending on who's on the ice in an eastern game the ice can open up but i think it's definitely a more defensive game. You look at Benn's 2nd goal, he shouldn't have been that open in the middle. Granted there was a delayed penalty for a pretty long time, dallas had 6 on the ice and colorado's players were probably tired, but still

It's a very different style of play. You actually see spurts of play like that in the East, but it seems like most of the coaches in the East are uncomfortable with that style and get their teams to tighten it up and work the boards more. I think the West is more entertaining, but the East is more satisfying. I don't see a lot of "workman-like" performances in western games.

A great example was Ryan Smyth just a few seconds ago. He tried to go outside, inside on the defender like Rick Nash does. But I don;t think a player like Smyth gets away with that move in the eastern conference. I just think the space is closed off more, defensemen are not as loose. And no one thinks of Ryan Smyth as that type of player.

Edmonton has severely struggled on their PP tonight. With all the fire power and talent they have they should be able to score on the majority of them or at least get more shots. They try to be too cute, too many extra passes. They need to shoot more.

totally agree, watching the stars avs game before and everythings so wide open, definitely more entertaining to watch then teams from the east.

I don't disagree, RGY, but it just seems like both teams (and many Eastern teams) give and receive pucks much more smoothly and maneuver around the offensive zone (and each other; switching sides of the ice for example, or crossing in the neutral) a lot more fluidly than we do. Obviously, we've got a good team and it's not much of a big deal - just an observation - but it does perplex me. We seem kind of cursed in terms of puck movement. No matter how good our players it just seems like we have to be that workmanlike team. That's okay with me as long as it gets results, and it has been for the better part of the last few years, but it always seems amazing to me when teams like Ottawa and Carolina and Toronto and Buffalo, or the Western teams seem to be able to move the puck and maneuver so much more fluidly than us. Regardless of how skilled our individuals are or how good of skaters we have. It's a strange phenomenon. It's especially evident when watching virtually 25 or so of the other PPs in the league. I'm not complaining; especially not when a win tomorrow puts us over .500, but it's just something that always vexes me when I watch other teams, especially in the West. It would be so thrilling to have our team be one of those really slick teams that seems to have loads of chemistry and moves the puck with ease for once. Strictly from an entertainment point of view.

Tanev gets his first NHL goal to win it in OT for the Canucks. Won't forget that one.

I get what you're saying and understand it, in fact I had a problem with their passes thus far this year too. But I think what's been the problem is that there was a decent amount of turnover, plus rust. The bottom six this year absolutely where rough to watch with their passing game. Even the top forward line and our best defensemen started off shaky. Those first few games especially everything just seemed off.

Other teams in the east might seem smoother, but, IMO all those teams you mentioned have weaker defenses, and I'm talking defensive systems/game as well as stay at home defensemen. The Rangers, when they gel and have their game down, play a strong overall game. That will come handy in the playoffs. Those games are even tighter. You're not going to see that wide open hockey. Even in the west last year the games were tighter.

On a side note, man the passing by Sedin's on the OT goal was something else.

Oh, there's no question our defense is better. It just would be such a pleasant change of pace to see a Rangers team that moves the puck fluidly up the ice and around the zone consistently, most of the game, all season. Obviously, not going to happen, not really in the blueprints of our system nor part of our team strength but, from a sitting back and watching the game POV, it would be nice. No question I agree with what you're saying. I'm just talking mostly about the aesthetic of the game and the frustration from home, watching a team that doesn't have the fluidity to their game that many other teams, plenty of whom are no doubt worse overall and I wouldn't trade mine for, seem to be able to display regularly.

Claimed by Colorado. Makes sense. They're hammered with injuries up front.

Just looking at box scores, Dubi got 5 for boarding, 5 for fighting, and 10 for head butting tonight, and a game misconduct, anyone see it?
