That compilation definitely looks good. He seems to love to go 5-hole on goalies. But he seems to be able to do a lot of what he wants with that shot of his. Really looking forward to seeing him at the pro level next year.

Etem has flat out brought it in these playoffs, according to Peter Loubardias, something he has been criticized for not doing in the past:

Quote:
I am not going to lie, after a less than stellar effort for the United States at back to back World Junior Championships and a round three of last spring’s WHL playoffs, one was starting to think that Medicine Hat Tigers star Emerson Etem might not be at his best when it matters most.

his line mates are not that good????? lol sounds to me like you have not watched 1 single live tigers game. Shinkaruk is going top 5 in 2013 and bredo is the only reason that Emerson and Hunter can play the way they do. Etem even said it himself " Bredo is the glue that holds our line together " no bredo isn't a offensive threat as much as Etem and Shinkaruk but he is 1 of the most underrated center man in the whole dub

Etem scored his first professional goal today, and it happened to be a game winning goal. The win also assure the Crunch are the 7th seed in the playoffs.

You are dead on.

I went to a number of Blades games this season and got to watch that line shred the "Bridge City Bunch" in the reg. season and playoffs. Extremely talented guys and it will be very interesting to see how Shinkaruk progresses with Etem moving on to Pro next season. I think he will do well as he was the best player on MH many nights, but he may push himself to another level (top 5 pick) this season. Going to be fun to watch.

Very fun to watch, With Shinkaruk being one of the older guys on the team next year it will also show of his leadership skills.

Figured I'd give an update. He's played in two games with the Ducks so far and he's looked much better than expected. Not as one dimensional as he was in Medicine Hat. Two assists tonight. He's playing with a ton of hustle. Active on the fore and backcheck. Uses his size surprisingly well. He's blocking shots. It's only a matter of time until he puts a goal in. He's come very close a few times. His size is the best part though. He's burned by defenders a couple times already.

Watched some of the Ducks game last night and he was pretty solid. He's the kind of kid that can elevate his game to a whole different level when needed. He was even given a shot with Getzlaf and Perry late in the game and didn't look out of place at all.

Wouldn't be shocked if he stayed up the rest of the season.

He didn't just not look out of place, he woke Getzlaf and Perry up. And I'd agree. I don't think he gets sent down and it's only a matter of time before he scores.

The line sucked til he was put on it.
they drew a penalty, and helped score a goal, and were only together for a couple of shifts. his speed is ridiculous!

I think you mean goal. But yeah. He brought a lot of energy to that line. Hope he starts there versus Colorado.

Any idea why his AHL numbers were really not impressive if he looks so good in the NHL right now?

It could be as simple as not being the focus of the opposing team, or just having some better players to work with. In another player, I might say he just wasn't putting in 100%, but I'm not sure I've ever seen Etem give anything less. The kid works hard.

I do think he's using his linemates better than he did in the AHL. There were times I felt he was trying to do too much in the AHL, and ended up not doing much of anything at all. He's been making the smart plays, the simple ones, and just putting in the work.

I'd add that he made it a personal goal to become more than a one dimensional player and actually took it to heart. What I like most about Etem is when he sets a goal for himself, he'll fight tooth and nail until he achieves it.

Etem started taking off right before christmas in the AHL.

When he isn't comfortable he doesn't give out the 2nd and 3rd efforts that makes him as a player. I think he just wasn't comfortable with his surroundings....we saw the same thing at the world junoirs, which is why a lot of critics wrote him off as a player who "quits" when the going gets tough...which is 100% not the case.

Watching him with the Tigers for most of his games he was very dedicated and a hard worker, when the going got tough he pushed harder and was becoming a physical force as well as a scorer.

I think a lot of people misjudged him as a one-dimensional type of player, when in reality at that point in time in his development he was strictly a north/south player. early In his draft year he was a floater at times but towards the end of the season that floater characteristic dropped off and was gone entirely.

After his draft year he greatly improved his east/west game to incorporate a lateral offensive ability and it took him to another level, and to me that was a huge sign that says NHL calibre, as he was a good player but was still able to improve. ( I think thats why he went 21st overall, and not top 10 or top 5 in the previous year because that ability wasn't their yet)

I think its only a matter of time and getting more experienced before he becomes the next big scoring threat for Anaheim.
