Thanks. That night it was a 7:30 puck drop, and I left a few minutes early and got to the Liberty Tunnel around 5:30. It went smoothly, I am hoping that's how it will be for all of the 7:30 games. I have to see how it goes on Thursday, with a 7:00 start. I expect that to take significantly longer

I appreciate the reply as well, I think I've posted around here before with non-hockey questions about the area/city and never gotten a reply. It must be the icon or something . Very happy to have been in Pittsburgh for the last 6 + years (and hopefully many more).

Haha, don't worry when the season starts BIG will make a dedicated baseball thread, and the Pittsburgh thread will be devoid of Pirates talk.

With Spring Training a week away and prospect lists getting released left and right I'll probably get the Jolly Roger Thread up either today or tomorrow.

5 Pirates in Law's top 100: Cole (#8), Taillon, Hanson, Polanco, and Heredia. Starting to get pretty excited about these guys. Very nice to have some highly regarded position players.

Link for those of us with ESPN Insider.

1 Jurickson Profar SS TEX 5-11 165
2 Oscar Taveras OF STL 6-2 180
3 Dylan Bundy RHP BAL 6-1 195
4 Wil Myers OF TB 6-3 190
5 Xander Bogaerts SS BOS 6-3 175
6 Christian Yelich OF MIA 6-4 189
7 Francisco Lindor SS CLE 5-11 175
8 Gerrit Cole RHP PIT 6-4 215
9 Taijuan Walker RHP SEA 6-4 195
10 Addison Russell SS OAK 6-0 185

Pirates placed 8th (Cole), 20th (Taillon), 34th (Hansen), 55th (Polanco), and 84th (Hededia).

Interesting, but expected, that 3 of the 5 were international free agents.

edit: I see Big got the top 10, but there's the Pirates specific write-up. Sounds like Heredia could improve if his new curveball works out for the better.

Interesting to see 4 shortstops in top 10 prospects.

That is probably the closest rink to downtown Pgh that you can find open stick time.

It's a little depressing being back home in Pgh when it comes to hockey. I'm so used to jumping on all of the free outdoor rinks up here in Ontario. There are literally a dozen of them around me where I can jump on and mess around or hit up a game whenever I want (not as easy since my daughter was born though).
Thanks... I'm pretty surprised that there isn't an open hockey or a drop in hockey in Pittsburgh. Here in NJ we get some really good open hockey games going at about 730 AM every day.

He'll be called up in September. Of course nothing is certain, but barring any major issues.

I'm curious where he will play.

I was looking through some of Pitt's past recruiting classes, and man have they have some top notch recruits bust. I'm mainly looking at Shayne Hale. He was highly touted out of Gateway.

We had a rink on the Southside when I was younger, and I spent a ton of time over there playing pickup. It was about ten minutes from me, I just had to go over West End bridge and up Carson Street.

I played a ton of ice and roller back then and I was in a semi-pro roller league with a couple of former Phantoms (RHI). I won't say his name, but a former Phantom was my pivot on that team and he ran the Southside rink. He got busted for ripping off the rink and ran it into the ground. The city closed it down and it never re-opened as far as I know. I heard rumors kids were sneaking in there and having rave parties.... Breaks my heart because I spent so much time there.

Most pickup for ice is in the outer districts now... Moon, Cranberry, etc.

It just blows coming home and you have to drive out to these rinks that aren't very close and pay for stick time. I'm just spoiled having outdoor rinks everywhere up here.

There's nothing like playing pickup at night on an outdoor rink with the snow falling down. Now that I just play for fun I don't really enjoy playing inside anymore. I'm just getting weird like that I guess...

Nice! Pitt have a solid recruiting class, 27 players. Chryst likes to recruit offensive linemen, not surprising given his style of offense like Wisconsin.

Hopefully, most of them will pan out.

So the sanchez deal is final and liriano is still on track to be here after his arm heals. Good news.

Also, even after the sanctions, PSU still signed the #1 QB in the nation and the #2 TE. Had the 24th best draft class according to ESPN. Not bad given all that's happened.

PSU will always have clout. I think we're seeing that now. You're playing in front of one of the biggest crowds in the country, and you are the only show in town. I can still see the appeal.

Yeah, some of freshmen will start right away at PSU instead being on bench for 2 years in other major college. A lot of seniors left so plenty of spots open in this fall.

Tight ends are stacked on roster. We're probably seeing 2 TEs formation a lot. Should be an interesting year.

Ohio State finished with the #2 recruiting class.

In the 'nobody cares files'...Jacksonville changed their logo without anyone realizing it, apparently.

Seems rather...unnecessary.

Sucks they lost that O-lineman to Pitt, but all things considered I'm happy. If Hackenberg pans out he ensures they'll at least win the games they're supposed to win. I think Bench will be the starter this coming year. He looked ready when he got in last season. Breneman, as you mentioned crowds he TEs A LOT. A guy like Lehman will not get as many reps even though he's a decent player.

Ya never know though. These rankings are always goofy and taken way too seriously, that goes for all recruits. Hackenberg is the only guy I fully expect to be a very good player. He looks really good. For everyone else I remember Derrick Williams. #1 WR overall player and WR. Had two very good years, then was just okay. I don't get too excited usually.
