I agree..although I think part had to do with his 4th line demotion..I do think that gave him a little more incentive to pick it up though.

Konopka actually helped create space for Granlund with his size and Grittiness. He helped out along the boards too..playing with a big gritty player like that is just what Mig64 needs IMO.

I'd be fine with him at wing this year..he just needs to play with a big body on his line to help separate pucks from defenseman. If he could somehow end up on Koivu's wing or on Coyles line that would be ideal.

I agree that he definitely needs a big, at least somewhat gritty linemate, but if you're looking for production, that has got to be someone else besides Konopka. He's not top 6 material. Great guy, performs well on the 4th line, good at faceoffs, but that's where it ends.

I could see Granlund switching to play as winger for longer period of time than this year. Of course it's too early to tell if he can handle center job in NHL in the future, but there's nothing wrong to make your career as a winger. Granlund could be Ray Whitney type of player who is primally playmaker, but plays on the wing.

Plenty of centers have started their NHL careers at wing, its a great way to transition, allows more opportunities to test your speed and moves on NHL defenders. Granlund and Koivu seemed to play well together and I would like to see them reunited. Plus at least Granlund turns it over less than Heatley.

Mikael Granlund has an odd nickname in Minnesota - was this picture the beginning of it?

Mikael Granlund, who plays for Minnesota Wild, has been given the nickname "Finnish Baby Jesus" in the United States.

Granlund has been called FBJ since last summer. There were a lot of pressure put on Granlund before the season started. The nickname was used by Wild fans on the internet, but also the newspapers used the nickname.

Granlund's nickname may come from a photo that some fan made last summer. In the picture, Granlund's face was pasted on the real baby Jesus, surrounded by Minnesota Wild staff & players.

Captain Mikko Koivu is looking at the baby in the top of the picture. GM Chuck Fletcher has carried the baby to its crib and coach Yeo is praying. Star player Zach Parise is looking at Koivu. Owner Craig Leopold is a shepherd.

The photo was published on the site Yardbarker.com by Derek Felska. He thought the photo was a good one considering the situation and the expectations Wild had for Granlund before the season started.
Well done, Finnish media.

Granlund played a little better last night.

I am of the mindset that he needs to put on about 20 lbs of leg muscle before this kid is going to cut it at center. Maybe now he'll be properly motivated during the summer to hit those squats.

Until then, please keep him at wing Yeo. He has skill, put him in a position where he will have the opportunity to excell. He's not good at d yet, hes not exceptionally fast and he's small. I think the results of this have been obvious.

To be fair, it was in a small magazine written by a pair of anarchist weirdos.

I'd leave Granlund as a winger for the rest of the season, and see where he is next year.

Edit: But not in the 4th line, obviously.

He should continue playing wing but not with Konopka. He should be tried with Coyle since they had obvious chemistry in the AHL...

I was wondering why "Finnish Baby Jesus" was FRB's most-searched term today. That's kind of cool and sad at the same time.

I only watched the first two periods, but Last night was by far Granlund's BEST game of the season. I think he needs to stay on Wing for this season.

Hasn't Coyle played some center throughout his career?

Granlund - Coyle - Seto

Yeah, Granlund played better at wing, exactly what I expected. Hopefully Yeo will keep him there.
