In all fairness this is pretty much a deal anyone could make. The timing is just there.
It's a deal anyone might make, but considering Winnipeg was hot after him, it's a smart move to pre-empt him going to free agency and get him in a deal like this, if he's truly your guy. And they gave up nothing on the roster for him.
And down goes Naylor's credibility even more. Just read an interview with Hervey and he says the starters job was NOT given or guaranteed to Reilly. He will compete for it.
I wasn't too impressed with how he decided to bring up Ray Lewis's past. Try to play both sides of the fence when there was really no reason to.

Don't get me wrong I like the deal, but it's not like they went out and got the best CFL Qb in the league in a deal. Made a trade they had to and gave up very little.

cool.
we don't hate him, but hated him as a starting QB for the esks.
Same. Just hated the decision to use him game in and game out when I felt they should have been giving Nichols more reps when it became obvious nothing was happening with Joseph or Jyles running the offence. From all reports, Joseph appears to be standup guy. But it's closing time on the playing career, Kerry. You had your last drink in November, and now time to move on to other adventures. Thanks for helping out.
Dunno. They are pursuing a high-calibre college QB. His level of interest depends on where he goes in the draft. Dixon is a possibility. So is Masoli, although that's looking less likely now than at the end of the season. They feel they're set at QB now and don't need to bring in much, other than a future prospect for clipboard-holding purposes. The wildcard is Nicol's recovery, but he's healing well.
Recently, Hervey was on Gregor and was asked if the Esks need a veteran QB to help the young guys out, in reference to keeping Joseph or not. And his response was like what's a veteran? You play a few years in this league and you basically are a veteran. One of the most refreshing comments I've heard from this org in a while. No one gets a free ride just because they've been there before.
6th rounder means Esks basically gave him to Montreal for free...don't get this move. He wasn't good last year after coming back from NFL but could have had a rebound year this one. He must have been making way too much money?
Morley Scott @Morley_Scott
Messam was making big $ ..new GM obviously thought it was too much. Better spent elsewhere. Opens the door for Charles and a new recruit
Brutal trade, in my view. A player of his calibre should warrant a second-rounder, I think. He's paid a high salary which reduces his appeal, but the guy was the outstanding Canadian and he's young. Maybe a bit injury prone, but a sixth-rounder is a terrible return. Ha, let's fire Swerve and bring back the other guy. /joke
I hate some of the returns we got in certain trades - Ricky Ray and Chris Pronger come to mind.
Messam is playing nice with Eskimos fans on Twitter right now but based on that "I've got a great agent!" tweet it's obvious that he wanted out. Hervey should have gotten more but his salary and poor play last year reduced his appeal.
Wow, how the mighty have fallen. A year and a half ago, named top Canadian and earned an NFL tryout. Now, after a miserable year, where he was 3rd man on the totem pole, he is basically released. Congrats to Hugh Charles, who outlasted both guys that parachuted in last year to try to take his job away, and both failed miserably. Charles was treated like garbage last year, in his lack of use, despite his great play and attitude. I'm impressed by the way he acted like a complete pro throughout the year as the gong show around him exploded. Now, it appears, the job is all his to lose. They do need now to get a big banger for the short yardage and blocking, etc. Mathieu Bertrand is done in that role IMO. Matter of fact, the amount he gets hurt, I think he should hang them up anyhow.
