We should trade Weber at the earliest possible opportunity when the no-trading rule is done, his value will be the highest then.

That way we get our number one center.

Trade Weber after paying all that signing bonus? That would be nuts. There are other ways to get better other than trading off your best player.

no way we are trading weber... We will have invested 26 million dollars into Weber by next seasons end... He will be a Pred for a LONG time.

Plus do people forget that Poile drafted Scott Stevens only to trade him away to the Devils? Poile had to watch Stevens win 3 cups. I doubt Poile makes that mistake again.

Trade Weber? when we can trade weber at that point his contract is one of the very best for a non cap team if not the best in the nhl.. to me its not going to be a generic #1 center.. that gets traded for.. there is no offer any team would make that would make me want to trade him... just to much money invested in him at that point and let the good part of the contract start paying off

you posed a hypothetical question that has almost zero likelihood of ever being a real life possibility which is why it really doesnt warrant an answer but i'll give you one anyway

the answer is, of course if the only way to save the franchise is to trade a player, then you trade a player. But if the franchise's future hangs on one player's salary, the franchise is probably f**ked anyway...

My point was what length would ssome here go to save the team. WHileosing the team is not on the scope the fickleness of the fanbaseis worriesome. In the early years there was a fanbase close to what the current season ticket holders are. Interest was lost and we struggled to put 10k in the building. I recall games with less than 7k in those lean years. Then the team started making the playoffs and the numbers started to climb to the current level.

All that said to point out if the team is not competitive just as the titians the past few years there will be many empty seats again. And my poin is that the team has two commodities to improve the team quickly Rinne and Weber, losing Rinne would devistate the team and Weber could be replaced without the defense falling to complete disarray.

So I think the question of how far the hardcore would go to have the team thrive is relivent.

Its basically taking a gamble on Paajarvi he has a bunch of raw talent and could use a change of scenery. Plus Smid is no slouch. Poile would never do this move but I know he wanted Smid a year or two ago at the least.

I don't think value is too far off, maybe a little in favor of us but EDM isn't even playing either of those players and could use a depth guy like Goose up front. I highly doubt they resign whitney at the end of the year anyways.

SK Fisher Erat
Hornqvist Legwand Wilson
Paajarvi Smith Borque
Yip Spaling Halischuck

Josi Weber
Whitney Klein
Ellis Gill/Hannan

Looks a ton better to me.

EDM won't move Smid or either Schultz, but I think they would be willing to move Whitney for cheapz. Same with MPS

Blum and Goose are good center pieces, but it is going to take a bit more than that. It may take one of Borque, Yip, or Halis instead. Regardless, I think Poile should inquire about MPS and Whitney. Too good players not being used ATM

Why is anyone anywhere talking about trading Weber?

In addition to the contractural particulars, the guy is the anchor of what's been one of the best D's in the league this short season, while breaking in a new #2 d-man (Josi stepping up) and another essentially rookie in Ellis and incorporating another new guy into the system (Hannan).

Yeah, he's score-less, but I think that's more a function of the entire team not being able to score than anything Weber's doing or not doing.

When you consider his contract, the guy might be the most untouchable player in the league.

That trade makes us worse. Smid is good, but he is also is redundant. Paajarvi hasn't produced in an environment where he is surrounded by offensive talent; what makes you think he would be any better here, let alone give us anything close to what we know Hornqvist can contribute?
