We were going without ANY DECENT goaltending after Patrick Roy left, you didn't see us making these types of offers to acquire a new Goalie.

And really it doesn't matter. Most Avs fans have stated that they don't believe that the Avs and Leafs are compatible trading partners, and I agree. While the pieces being offered aren't garbage, they really don't fit the needs that we have. So let's move on.

And since Carter, Richards(x2) and Staal are traded , the only team which might have an abundance of those centermen is Colorado.
And it shows in those trade threads. Our guys are not superstars (Duchene might be one soon) but they are more than decent.
So we usually get an offer that does nothing for the Avs in term of needs or value. If that is pointed out (sometimes rather harsh) the reaction will be a severe bashing of our players.
That is why almost every Avs fan reaction of those kind of proposals is at best pure sarcasm or at worst very harsh language...

Yeah I think with all the spazoid over hyped defense prices, people have forgotten just how valuable a reliable 50+ point top 6 center really is.
If your selling D people line up regardless of the quality it seams, but still if your selling a top 6 center teams are going to line up and your going to get your pick of offers coming from teams knowing they are probably competing with 10 other teams. With D it maybe 15 or 20 other teams.
The only teams that take 'Packages' for top six/top 4 players are teams that are rebuilding, or the player is 1 year away from becoming a UFA and the team does not feel the player plans to resign.
Toronto needs a two way center with high potential and colorado needs atleast a top 4 dman a solid young winger and a two way center to play 3c so here goes.

So... Toronto loses a couple games in a row, where we score a grand total of one goal....
The solution is ... trade our first line centre, top goalscorer, one of our best defensive players, and a 2nd round pick for a holdout player with a career high of 55 points, and a career average production less than that of the centre we're trading???
Reality is -- Guys like Tyler Bozak, Matt Frattin, and Carl Gunnarsson, are going nowhere. They're part of the solution until better players for their positions come along. Ryan O'Reilly isn't an upgrade on Tyler Bozak in the #1C position, he's not a defenceman, and while he's probably better for our team than Frattin, the upgrade to our 3rd line is certainly nowhere near substantial enough to justify moving the 3 other pieces.

Fair trade for both teams. Avs get a top six foward in Frattin he can find the back of the net with ease. you get a great 3rd line center that is a beast on faceoffs in Bozak you also get Gunnarson and he can play big minutes or small minutes hes a very good defensemen and his cap hit is very very low and a 2nd round pick, what a deal and a steal. Leafs get oreilly a very good two way center. To be honest the avs need to throw in someone like Tyson Barrie to even out the deal.

We could swap in Highlander, he's more proven and since we're not trying to win it all like the Leafs, we could handle taking the more unproven fighter.

That's true, he put up more points last year than the two of them have in their careers, put together. Plus PAP is currently an elite goal scorer, so I can see that perspective, but since we're tanking we can gamble on question marks like Gardiner and Rielly...
So do we flip all those players for a no. 2 young defender? Or do we just litter our roster with unwanted players? Seriously we're done with the rebuild, we have our core now its time to add the missing pieces. Bozak, Frattin and Gunnarson are not the missing pieces. Only player I would be remotely interested in is Frattin because he's actually doing well. Unlike no. 1 centre Bozak and lower body injury Gunnarson.
