Despres did play bad vs Washington but he played very well the 2 games before that

Lovejoy just sucks in general

Yeah, well playing short shifts, few in between... he's done a lot with the averaged 13/14 mins a game he gets.. I would like to see those minutes go up so we can see how he really does logging some good time. We haven't seen that yet.

The two are not mutually exclusive. You can develop players and be a win now team.

Yeah, the Pens are a win-now team as long as they have Sid and Geno... which will be for quite some time. Are you saying we can't develop any prospects over the next 8 years or whatever?

Surprised or not, you throw him right back in and let him learn. I mean, it's one thing if we're leaving Nisky on the bench. I'd get that switch.

But, Lovejoy? Really . . . ? Really . . . ? Really . . . ?

Don't be too hard on DB. We still won a Cup under him and we're putting up solid regular season numbers. Granted we're turning into the San Jose of the East. lol Wait, where am I going with this?

Is it even confirmed that Lovejoy is in tonight?

If he is, Dan Bylsma is stupid.

It's early into it still. Don't threat with the Lovejoy thing. I doubt he gets much time out there. Might as well give him one last... err last few chances. I won't say last, because we never know for sure what or when that is. But yes, now's the time to let a vet like Lovejoy prove himself vs. late into the year when you're trying to win that home advantage. I am just trying to think logically here. Meh...

Somewhere that's going to get you cut off from the kool-aid supply.

The problem is, it won't be just a one-game ban. I'd have no problem sitting Despres out for one game. But look how long it's going to be for Tangradi to get back into the lineup. Or Jeffrey. There is precedence here.

Despres was being used as a top-four rearguard as Letang's partner. Putting Lovejoy back in means we'll have two all righty pairings and one all lefty. It's pretty whack!

Clearly, Niskanen is going to be placed back with Letang when he recovers, and personally I really hate that pairing. I like both guys to play with a more stay-at-home presence to take better advantage of their offensive ability (which gets negated when they are forced to pair up).

I wouldn't mind seeing Bortuzzo get a promotion to Letang's pairing tonight, but I'd be shocked if that's what happens.

I don't understand why Bylsma can't leave well enough alone...like, ever.

Where is the Lovejoy/Despres news coming from? I can't find anyone saying it on twitter.

If it's true, what a crap move. I had a suspicion it might happen... Despres had a tough game against a tough forechecking team. He'll obviously only learn from his mistakes while sitting in the press box and letting ............................... (deleting 15 derogatory things about Lovejoy) Ben Lovejoy take his spot.

I wonder why they aren't just putting him on the bottom pairing then.

Because Nisky is injured and he was Letang's partner. They are grooming Despres to take that spot so he is getting time there. It's only logical. They should, however, place him on the 3rd pairing if t hey feel like he's struggling. Benching him for Lovejoy is flat out stupid.

I really dont have a problem playing lovejoy. Bortuzzo got a chance to play and hes taking advantage of his opportunity hes played to good for DB to take him out. If despres wants to stick in the lineup he needs to play better. Hes to inconsistent right now.

But the dictionary still states that...

I posted a link in the thread from a radio interview steigerwald did this afternoon where he basically said lovejoy was in for despres.

Despres has taken advantage of it. He's played well. He had a shaky first half to the Washington game. It happens. You don't reward his good games by benching him after his first shaky one.

And Ben Lovejoy has no redeeming qualities beyond his smile and his last name.

I know, it said Steigerwald thinks Lovejoy will be in over Despres.

Not denying it, but I would want more confirmation from others like Molinari, Yohe, etc before listening to Steigerwald.

Dave Molinari tweeted about the morning skate earlier.

Quote:
Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG
Penguins participating in optional skate: 29, 92, 6, 41, 58, 5, 6, 15, 25, 14, 27, 46, 17, 48.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG
No, Ben Lovejoy isn't out there twice. Fifth defenseman is Despres.

Im one of the few here who actually thinks lovejoy is a average 5th or 6th defenseman. That delay of game penalty despres took was so bad there was nobody even close to him when he shot the puck and it cost the pens a goal u cant do stupid things like that and expect to play when your trying to stay in the lineup.
