Those would be absolutely terrible trades.

So, we are in agreement to a point. Getting tougher (but combining that with talent) makes the Canucks a step ahead of these other teams.

Let's go back to Florida, what in your mind constitutes a good trade with Florida?

Weiss and Versteeg are not fits. What about Matthias and Kulikov...

I doubt they will do that, but they have so many good prospects.
I really hope it is with Florida.

No need for Matthias as I feel that he isn't a better option than Schroeder or Lapierre for the 3rd line center spot right now.
He isn't good at faceoffs and he cant put up points.

Kulikov would be great, but I don't see Florida moving him for a goalie, and there isn't room for him on our team right now.

Gudbranson was targeted for Hodgson.

Big, mean, RIGHT HANDED, young, ELC....basically everything Gillis is after.

Yup, but with Tallon's refusal of including Bjugstad, how does he possibly deal Gudbranson instead? Guds would be a perfect fit here, or on most other teams.

He was also injured...will likely be back in the lineup today...where Gillis will be watching that game...and he said he was waiting on a player for a Luongo trade...so...

Bjugstad not being moved is due to positional depth. If Huberdeau stays at wing, and Weiss possibly leaving, Bjugstad is the only thing close they have to becoming a solid top-6 centre.

Florida has significantly more depth on defense. I'm not saying it's likely he'd be included, but it's a possibility.

Oh I understand, but it still seems far-fetched.

Possible, yes. But less likely than getting Bjugstad IMO. Gillis should just take on a project player and 1st. Going after other teams high end NHL ready/blue chip prospects doesn't seem like the smartest course of action (if in fact that's what he's doing).

But Bjugstad is the ever elusive big center...

I don't think he'd make the move, but he does have cover back there for the loss of Gudbranson.

These 5 guys are under contract next year in Florida's Blueline:

Campbell, Jovo, Kulikov, Kuba, Weaver.

They're using Ellerby quite a bit, Strachan is also getting time, and they have replacements in the AHL in Robak and Petrovic moving forward.

Seems to me, they have the chips to make the switch, whether they feel it is necessary is a different story.

I still really think Bjugstad is a possible return and that Florida would be willing to do it. I think Florida is waiting to see where the dice falls on Weiss before moving a center, though.

They've always had the chips. Don't you think they would deal Petrovic far quicker than they even entertain the thought of Gudbranson moving?

Give me Petrovic and a 1st and I'll be a happy camper.

What would you be willing to add to Luongo in that scenario?

Say Luongo + Raymond + Gaunce + 1st?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder if we could do Luongo + Ballard + Raymond for Weiss + Weaver + Upshall (cap dump).

All our d pairing problems would be solved:
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Tanev
Garrison - Weaver

The biggest help for Florida is that they get a long-term asset (Luongo) for a short-term one (Weiss) and Upshall offsets the salary discrepency between Weaver and Ballard...while Raymond more than makes up for the loss of Upshall up front.

It's hard to say.

There is a bit of a history between gudbranson's camp and the Panthers since they didn't want to buck up the ELC contract right after his draft year (where he supposedly made the team, but they wouldn't sign him).

Not sure.

Hey, if he's not on the up and up there, then yeah, by all means go for him. I think I'm just second guessing everything because nothing has happened on the Luongo front for so long, with regards to talks.

Florida needs a goaltender desperately, their starting goaltender has the worst stats in the league.

That'd be sweet. Just, totally, totally sweet.

Our pairings next year, in no particular order, would be Hamhuis-Bieksa, Edler-Tanev, and Garrison-Gudbranson. I see no real loss of talent from one pairing to the next.

Hank-Kesler-Weiss would be disgusting down the middle, and if we can retain Higgins, Booth, Lapierre and maybe Raymond...love that scoring depth.

Danny-Hank-Kassian/Burrows, Booth-Kesler-Kassian/Burrows, Higgins-Weiss-Hansen, Raymond(?)/Volpatti-Lapierre-Weise

Add Schneider in net (presumably) and that is a ridiculous line up. Add in Manny and Ballard rotating in, and Barker, Ebbett, Schroeder and Alberts and we have a winner this season.

Also, this is a tinfoil hat conspiracy based on Gillis checking out the Penguins/Caps game the other day....what if it was the Penguins Gillis was scouting?

Malkin for Kesler (the player in waiting), Schneider, Ballard, Jensen/Gaunce+

I didn't attatch this to my last post, as I didn't want it lumped in with my serious post.

I'm not sure how Kuzma tweeting that Gillis should go scout the Winnipeg/Florida game tonight has turned into Gillis will be scouting the game.
