What about getting Reasoner back from the Isles? I know, I saw manbearpig posted earlier about it. But he might be worth a look with Horcoff out long term. Decent in the FO dot and on the PK too.

Exactly. With Connolly, it would render us unable to get the entire team of even the Islanders. With that extra space we could pick up the Penguins roster. And I mean come on, that difference wins us the cup

Honestly, based on the names being thrown around, I'd rather see what our young guys can do before trading for a below average vet.

Oh Snap!

What would it take to get cogs back? His Fo so far loks better then earlier year. I always liked cogs, he didnt lived up to the expectations the board had on him when he and Gags was the next superstars. I like what he brings to the table, He has speed for top six but not the hands.Great in pk and also a threath there, always do his best and never injured a perfect shutdown playing c with better offense then belanger(who hasnt).

IIRC he's also horrifying on the dot. Plus, he makes Horcoff's hands look like Eberle's

Now confirmed that FA Centre Brendan Morrison will join @SportsnetSpec at 1:40 on @TheTeam1260

Maybe he'll beg for a job.

He'd win about as many faceoffs for us as I would, and I wouldn't win any.

Arcobello is only 1 inch smaller, and not a permanent solution. He's here because we need someone to fill in for a week

A couple names I thought of.

What about Abdlekader for Whitney. Detroit needs defence. We need size and grit. I think Abdlekader can play center, but he's a better big body winger when Horcoff/Belanger come back.

Steckel from Toronto. He's been a healthy scratch a few games so far. He's big and can win faceoffs. Can sit in the press box after the healthy guys come back or can play on the 4th line.

See ya
Ace

What about Ryan White from Montreal as addition at centre

6'0 193 lbs.

One pesky little bugger.

61% in the dot this season so far. Healthy Scratch last two games as he's in Therrien's dog house.

He's a guy I had on my radar for a little while, a nice shift disturber for the bottom-6

I'd like to see the Oilers acquire Vermette from PHX, what do you think it would take to get him? Say Paajarvi and a 2nd rounder?

Ryan O'Reilly for our first round pick.

A gamble I'd be willing to take.

Ya, you never know though. They gave up two 1st rounders for Varly. Maybe they figure they can't sign ROR and decide that they will move him and get a 1st rounder this year....

I think the Canes may be interested in Sam Gagner as a 3rd line centerman. Would a trade centered around Gagner for a defenseman like Jamie McBain satisfy the needs for both teams?

The trade I was thinking of:

To Oilers:

D Jamie McBain (2 Years/$1.8M remaining, then RFA)
4th Round Pick 2013

To Canes:

C Sam Gagner (RFA next year)
D Mark Fistric (expiring contract)

Horrendous deal for the Oilers, truly. This makes the team worse now and going forward.

Wait a minute, I had no idea he was a PPG this year. Never mind, I don't follow the Oilers very much, haha.

remember--the hatred of Horcoff is only topped by the hated of gagner

Something around Gagner for McBain is something I'd consider-- But I think it would require Carolina's first rounder in return for either of Edmonton or Anaheim's 2nd.

That said, I'd be hesitant to do it now. I've always thought Gagner would top out around 55-60 points per full season. A good 2nd liner. And that McBain has the potential to be a #3 MAYBE #2. But McBain hasn't been lights out this year and Gagner has. So if things change a bit over the next 20-25 games around the deadline or a bit before, it's a deal I consider. But as of right now, I think Carolina would need to overpay, I don't think they would, and Edmonton literally has NO centre depth, and Carolina doesn't have anybody even remotely capable of replacing Gagner they could afford to or would be willing to give up.

If Edmonton traded somebody for a guy like Bozak or O'Reilly, it's something I'd still consider.
