Jones is the type of player you just don't pass on unless you're getting Mackinnon or Barkov. After watching the WJC, I'm almost positive that if we passed on this kid, we'd regret it.
I know he exceeded the expectations, at least in some previous seasons, but imo, he was thought to be a 1st line center then. He also proved us to be right right after we drafted him with his performance in the upcoming seasons.
The center talent we might get in this draft might be better than anyone of our current center prospects. Just my thoughts
IIRC he was projected by most as a #1B - 2C after we drafted him. It wasn't until his WJCs in '05 or maybe even the 05-06 season where people started looking at him in a different light. It's interesting looking back at he and Perry's projections before they turned prop. A lot of people had Perry pegged as a boom or bust type who had higher upside than Getzlaf but his skating ability and lack of strenght/balance had many worried. I still can't believe we almost traded him for Mike Comrie of all people.

At least he was scoring force after we drafted hi and scored much above PPG at least in one season. The thing that Holland and Rakell haven`t been able to do.
That JC really stands out for him, though.
I believe in this draft we will be able to pick up the best center prospect we`ve had since last lockout (Getz). The question is weather Bob will do it. If you look at any strong team - they build their team around centers. aaand veteran defenseman who are impossible to draft
PS
As i looked at stats on eliteprospects - Getzlaf always struggle when he gets the letter.
The early start is nice, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I never actually saw us finishing bottom-5, but I certainly remember the Wild sitting among the top of the league after a way bigger portion of the season last year, just to make their way to picking right behind us. It's a great start, but the gaps are close.

SHUSH! We don't need that kind of talk round these parts.
I also would like to see Etem take the cup to long beach his hometown. Would he be the first California born player to win the Stanley Cup? Anyone know?

hmmm...that's a good question. Had Bobby Ryan on the tip of my tongue but he only lived out here for a little while.
