Rangers icing worst 3rd pairing in history of the NHL?

The Rangers are playing Matt Gilroy and Stu Bickel on the 3rd pair tonight against the Devils. Is this the worst defense pairing in the NHL in a long time? If not, which ones do you believe were worse?

This is far, far, far from the worst third pairing in "NHL history". If you think it is, you must think the NHL formed five years ago.

Boston Bruins 2006-07 at one point iced Bobby Allen and Jason York as a third pairing.

If Gilroy is half as good as he was against Tampa, we'll be fine

Dude, with the Jackets 4 injuries on defense they have Nick Holden (5 NHL Games) - Cody Goloubef (1 NHL game) playing against the Stanley Cup champs. With Tyutin-Savard as the 2nd pairing and JJ-Erixon as first. So yes, it could be worse.

It's not as though they'll play at all anyway.

In the rangers defense. The best offensive player on the devils is David clarkson.

Whitney is one of the slowest NHLers and Potter has the hockey IQ of an avocado.

My pick, too.

Flyers 3rd pairing during their cup run was atrocious.

Lukas Krejicek & Oskars Bartulis.

Since that game 6 loss in the Finals, they have played a combined 13 NHL games between the 2 (all Bartulis).

lol?

Ryan Whitney has been at least a proven NHL player for a solid 8 seasons now. He is far better than Bickel and Gilroy combined.

They played very little. Almost was unnecessary to have them when Pronger, Timonen, Carle, and Coburn are okay pulling ~30mins a night.

I think this is very comparable to Gilroy-Bickel.

Actually it was Krajicek and Parent, which is arguably worse considering Parent's deformed spine.

The pairing only was only on the ice for about a minute a game... But boy that was a scary minute

He really isn't.

He goes to a new team, and the fans are like "jeez this guy looks pretty good, maybe the fans of the team he came from were wrong?", and then one day he decides he'd now on rather be a huge liability than an effective defender.

I can't wait until he gets traded again and pulls the wool over the new fans' eyes.

You're just wrong. Ryan Whitney even if he is a pylon brings at least some resemblance of a breakout pass.

Thats a bit of a stretch. he was a pretty good defenseman when he came to edmonton. The injuries did a number on him. Hes played bad since
