If he gets to offersheet territory, I'd imagine the Flyers will make a play.

with the cap going down? It would be a waste of time because the money wouldn't be significant enough where the 'Yotes wouldn't match ($8mil space with 18 players signed and some RFAs to sign the following year).

Briere gets bought out = another 6.5M
Pronger's LTIR = another 4.9M
If the Flyers are acquiring another defenseman like OEL, Meszaros could be traded = another 4.0M

The money is absolutely there for the Flyers to offersheet OEL if they so wish.

Personally though, I think Rundblad would be a much more sneaky target. He possesses the #1 offensive upside that the Flyers would covet in a defenseman and I'm not sure Phoenix would match at anything around $4M. That's be a big gamble for PHX to take on an unproven player...

I wouldn't mind grabbing Rundblad depending on the price.

What would Phoenix want for him?

No, it is highly unlikely that they would make an offer that Phoenix wouldn't match. If the NHL is serious about keeping a team in Phoenix they need a competitive roster. Also, there are a number of teams with more space that could make a more competitive offer and I think he would be traded prior to that - if Phoenix felt it was going down that road. The day of making stupid frontloaded contracts is over.

Personally though, I think Rundblad would be a much more sneaky target. He possesses the #1 offensive upside that the Flyers would covet in a defenseman and I'm not sure Phoenix would match at anything around $4M. That's be a big gamble for PHX to take on an unproven player...
I agree. I think Rundblad would be someone that could be had for a reasonable price. Much more do able then OEL.

If I was PHX, it would take more than that.

I would rather just offer a poison pill contract this summer and see if the ownerless Coyotes can match like with Weber.

You're going to get bombarded for that one. But... it's true, and something I wouldn't mind the Flyers trying.

Didn't the current CBA make that virtually impossible?

Doan has already said that he doesn't want to play on any other team than Phoenix, so why bother trading younger players with potential for someone who may retire?

A first line winger and a soon to be first line center and a high 1st round pick for a old captain-material veteran forward and a number one defenseman.

Philadelphia gives up too much.

You don't just get two PPG potential young forwards in a deal.

That's like Nashville asking for Jeff Carter and Mike Richards and a 1st for Shea Weber and Mike Fisher.

****ing insanity. And shame on you people saying that Phoenix isn't getting enough. Holy ****.

Comical!! Swap Couturier for Schenn, then swap Yandle for OEL and Vrbata for Doan......then we'll talk

There is no package Philly could put together to get OEL.

You're right guys.

Crosby + Malkin only gets you OEL.

I hope someone offersheets him next year as karmic justice for this nonsense.

So my favorite team would be the Flyers, followed by the Yotes. They're my East and West teams respectively. I'm kind of confused why everyone is overrating Doan here? I'm not saying the trade is good, by any means, but Shane Doan only really carries intangibles anymore, and for a few more years at that. OEL isn't going anywhere, regardless. Flyers would go after Runblad if they were to make a deal with the Coyotes.

There is a very short list of players OEL will be moved for. Shafer, despite the obvious anger, is pretty close to the mark. So with that said, can we refrain from talking about it?

Well a #1 C (or close to meeting that potential) would be a starter.

Phoenix says yes, Couturier is a guy who would do very well in our system.

Heart and soul of the team and future captain... hmmm, ya, no. Phoenix says no, go sulk somewhere else if you don't like us refusing offers we don't agree on.

I love how this is coming from HFers staff trolling trade threads. How did the offer sheet work on Weber?

As for the Schenn brothers, they continue to grossly overrate their value - especially Brayden's.
They seem to play well against the pens. And why exactly is Brayden overrated? I don't think many flyers fans see him as anything more then a 65+ pts 2nd line C.

OP is terrible for Coyotes but some of the other comments in this thread are equally as rediculous.

It's funny how some posters talk about offer sheets when the cap goes down to $64.3 Mil. And from the team that currently is on top of the cap limit to a team that is near the bottom.
When talking about trading for Oliver, it would cost an extreme over payment and also fit the long term picture and be Tippet-type players.
