The technology is not that different than the global positioning style of technology used today. It'll simply look for quadrants that will consist of the goal, so if it goes to x: 50 y: 50 z: 50 it's a goal. Technology has caught up to 3 dimensional concepts.

Yeah that's how it would track the puck. It's triangulation, kind of like the concept of cell phones & E911. (not using a gps-enabled phone, that's a different example)
