I'm in central NY, so Gore is really the only fairly close major ski area. Whiteface would be worth the drive (3.5 hours) on a perfect day, but Gore is only about 2 hours away.
Well, I'm not in Boston but that still sounds harsh.
I know, but I dont know where in CT you are. The further east = more snow. You're getting pounded no matter what though.

Went to Gore for the first time ever 3 weeks ago. It was brutally cold and conditions werent optimal, but it seems like a neat place. I've never seen a "pod layout" in a ski mountain before, that was kind of weird. The Rumor was closed too, which sucked, but I just won a pair of tickets there so I'll be back again this season with hopefully better snow. As of now, Gore should do 7" or 8", so the skiing will be great this weekend.
The overnight weather model runs for this weekend went EPIC! (and I rarely use that word)
If the European model verifies, this will be a top-10 east coast blizzard since man has tracked snowstorms. Hopefully they're right and the USA model (which is much, much, smaller) is wrong, but with each ensuing run the last few days the storm comes a bit more west (more snow for NJ) and gets a bit colder (more snow for NJ).

instead of always calling for MASSIVE MONSTROUS EPIC snow, why don’t you not look until it’s the day before? seems like you put a lot of work into these, which usually turn out to be a light dusting.
This is the only model calling for this, which usually means it wont happen, BUT, its also the 1 model which has been most correct in handling this particular storm. For instance, the US government's model had "bright, sunny skies, clear day" for Friday just two days ago, whereas the Europeans called for a blizzard. Since then the USA has moved to a blizzard too (though a much smaller one). That's why I'm kindof excited it may happen.

Sticking your head out the window is obviously the most accurate thing you can do, and you're correct in that the models have been AWFUL and inaccurate this year (and last). The truth is, man is not yet sophisticated enough to even come close to predicting the weather with accuracy beyond a very small timeframe. But that doesn't mean people shouldn't try.

Snow on a Sunday evening? Now were talkin.
This would start on Friday afternoon or evening in NJ (probably as rain first since timing seems a bit warm) and it snows all night. Not sure when it stops, but probably by 6am Saturday.
They've taken the ONE model that has the center of the storm over NJ (all others have it much farther NE and over CT and Boston) and splashed it on television.
BG, what's the realistic chance we'll get something significant Saturday morning in the NYC metro area?
I guess it depends on your definition of "significant"
3 or 4 inches? Very likely
7 or 8 inches? Possible
10 or 12 inches? Well, some models as of this morning say that, but I wouldn't count on it.
The European's model should come out around 2 or 3pm, and that will be the next major data point to look for in terms of how serious this thing is and for whom.
I was actually at Toggenburg (a tiny hill near Syracuse) last night. It was my first time on teles, so it was pretty rough.

I skiied Gore on closing day in April a couple years back. I thought the skiing was very good considering the spring conditions. I hear great things about Gore's tree-skiing.
Looks like Sunday could be bluebird. I would love to go up Saturday and ski the pow, but I have doubts about my car making it through the southern Adirondacks if the roads are snowy at all.

I'd debating whether to ski the actual pow day of Saturday, or Sunday (which will still be great). Cant drive all the way to Gore for a day-trip though, so I'm thinking Plattekill.
