I'd like to back that motion, but in all honesty I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank to warrant any investment beyond maybe this season as a short term rental.

You'd trade a third line player for a fringe NHLer?

What planet are you on?

Well I can tell you on his planet Boyle is not a third line player. And there are a lot of inhabitants.

Please, please, please can we not have this trade thread digress into another debate over whether Boyle is a 3rd liner or not?

I would do Thomas for Beleskey. I would do a 3rd for Beleskey. I would not, at all, mind Beleskey on the NYR. I think Beleskey is not a fringe NHL player but a quality fourth liner who could probably even be a third liner in the right situation, and I like his game. I would not move Boyle for Beleskey. It would be lateral at best and, in 99% of outcomes, it would be a backward step.

Tawnos, the debate has shifted now to Boyle not even being an NHLer. The notion is just laughable.

Marc Andre Bergeron + 5th for Eminger

Clearly Torts is never going to play Eminger so might as well get something for him. MAB can't possibly be worse than Bickel on D; slot him in on the 3rd pairing and let him single handedly clap bombs from the point on the Flowerplay. Does TB do this and what do you guys think?

Boyle's PK and defensive abilities make him something far from a fringe NHL player.

Agreed. The hate around here is pathetic. But Boyle should be used where his talents are utiliized and not making him into something he is not. With the return of Cally & Kreider, the additions of Powe, Mashinter, Ferriero, Powe and Palmieri (creating competition) and the possible emergence of JT Miller, this should be possible to accommodate on the roster and Boyle can finally be slotted into the place that works best for him and the team. A defensive 4th line of Boyle - Halpern - Asham/Powe is not bad at all. It is getting the 3 lines on top of this to function that is the real test.

There I would like to see:

Hagelin - Richards - Gaborik/Nash
Pyatt/Kreider - Stepan - Nash/Gaborik
Kreider/Pyatt - Miller - Callahan

Well Eminger did play a few games so I wouldn't say that but he will be replaced at some pt. a 3rd and Eminger is a likely package for a rental D

The hate Stepan and Boyle get around here is pretty ridiculous. You know, it's a team sport, and in every loss so far, NYR stunk pretty much collectively. How about you blame the team effort?

0-4, shutout for 240 minutes, career ending injuries to 8 of our players and MSG collapses, kills 18934, insurance companies pay out $8.3B dollars, Dolan charged with criminal negligence leading to death of 18924, jailed and declares bankruptcy, NYR is owned by the Banks, sold to Charles Wang who unifies the two New York Team into the New York WatchMeSinkAnotherFranchisers, Ranger fans all turn their backs on hockey, NHL suffers negative media, Bettman blames PA to save his job, Don Fehr blame the league, players lockout the owners, league goes into 14 year lockout where all the hockey talent in the world goes to the KHL and European leagues. AHL and CHL disbands due to the lack of a hockey platform in NA. HFNYR and HFBoards turns into ghost towns and 60 years from now, soccer is the only remaining sport in the Unified Earth Empire. Sidney Crosby makes smooth transition to soccer and draws enough penalties to win his club a championship and becomes the greatest soccer player ever born. Also, Stu Bickel finds a job as a clown in a travelling circus where he recounts his tale as a semi-professional sports player.

If the Rangers are looking to trade Boyle because they feel he isn't worth the $1.7M cap hit, that is a different story. Boyle signed the 3 year/$5.1M contract after his 21 goal season in 10-11. Eleven goals last season. The 3rd year is a group III year.

I think it might be time to say goodbye to Boyle.
After his 21g season, I thought he had realized what kind of player he is.

Boyle is athletic but not very good at hockey.
He refuses to accept that his game is based upon his physical gifts rather than talent.

Brian Boyle of the ottawa series was a factor, a serious contributor. As was his 20+ goal year. Consistency is the problem here. As is using him in his correct role. Now it looks like there MAY be enough depth to do that. Not expecting any miracles, just a rebound. His cap hit will be a slight problem next year as well, yeah, I am not going to divulge further...

Richards is more of an issue then Boyle.

Richards at 6.666 for 7 more years?? With the way he has played thus far in 2013??

That contract WILL damage this team if they don't use the last compliance buy out on it.

BRich needs to step his game up big time. I believe he will. I still think he can contribute for years to come. He doesn't look like himself out there.

Many on this team don't like that prepared for the end of the lockout

I am still in favor of moving Gaborik in the off-season. I don't care how many goals he scores in this shortened season, I doubt he will be re-signed. 33 y/o Gaborik on another long-term deal? No thanks.

Move him for top-line assets and use the 7.5 million in cap space on someone else.

i'm a Gaborik fan, but I would hate to see his game as he ages, especially considering he's not the most robust physical specimen. A 2yr deal i could see, but i doubt he takes it.

moving him this offseason may be the wisest thing to do, but you've got to bring in a proven 25g-30 scorer at least, and someone who fits our system.

We're leaking goals right now, I don't want to trade one of our best defensive players. He hits, blocks shots, and is solid at faceoffs. 1.7 is not a burden for what he brings.

Boyle was a factor in the first 3-4 games of the Ottawa series. Chris Neil concussed him. Boyle also played with an injured shoulder. Boyle wasn't much of a factor after the concussion.
