I'm sort of amazed that this is true, but I guess if someone is willing to blow off a contract for 7 years, then it's hard to imagine them not being obligated anymore. With that being said, why on earth would his agent encourage him (at this point) to report to the Bruins? Makes no sense at all. Unless, I suppose, his season ends and Chiarelli offers him a spot in the lineup down the stretch and into the playoffs (a la Radulov). Would he still be a UFA in July if he took advantage of that?
Anyways, I'll never get the vitriol for this kid. If you ask me, his career path has sort of worked out for him. He's peaking at just the right time (about to be a UFA), there's a copious amount of intrigue and mystery surrounding him in terms of NHL viability, and he could potentially cash in large because of all the timing. I hope that he winds up in a Bruins uniform, but I'm also realistic in the sense that it's likely not going to happen.
Ok, wake me up when his contract over there expires and he reports to the Bruins. ^_^ Otherwise this is just useless hype.
I have a feeling he's going to stay in Sweden forever.
Nah look at this quote from the article:
– Det ska vara ett envägskontrakt och bra pengar. Samtidigt ska jag känna att de vill ha in mig i laget och det har jag fått indikationer på att de vill. Vi få se vad som händer, säger han.
En biljett till VM i Stockholm eller inte, Carl Söderberg tror ändå att vägen till NHL ligger öppen.
– Jag får nog ett NHL-erbjudande oavsett vad. Men det skulle vara jättespännande att få vara med om ett VM, säger han.
Which says that he wants a one-way contract with decent money, but he also insists that he wants to be needed by the team and he have gotten the feeling that they want that.
Then he also says that wether or not he will get a ticket to the WC he propably will get an offer from the NHL. But it will be exciting to play in a WC.
Carl is a living legend for the Malmö supporters. Carrying a bad team with financial/coaching/player/everything- problem during a period he could have gone to the NHL or Elitserien instead. The lineup- Päjärvi-Söderberg-Burakowski would be fun to have in the NHL.
