Not really a star-for-a-star deal at all. EJ's stock was pretty low. Only comparable would be if one of kids we have hits the crapper in the next couple of years. At that point, anything goes, I suppose.
Were any of them on the teams that won? I don't think they were, Lindros and Sundin definately weren't. I don't think Nolan was either?
So was the question is there any team with 3 1st overall picks to win the Cup, or 3 first overall picks Still on the team to win the Cup?
The former is Colorado/Quebec (SAME FRANCHISE)
The Later seems to be no one, though The Habs from picked 1st overall in 1968 and '69, 5th in 1970 and 1st in 1971 and won a Cup. Though I think things were a little different then.
I am impressed by Ralph Kreuger making this decision. It isn't easy to sit a veteran player out of a game. You can risk having that player turn on you. It can mess up the dressing room, I have seen it. Whitney isn't going to be a problem though, he wants to be here long term.

Anyone think we should trade our 'game breaker' Taylor Hall yet? He has no finish.. That penalty shot put me over the edge. Horcoff could have done it better.

yet no other player on this team has the speed and tenacity to create that chance in the first place.

Re: Whitney
Well, that settles it. The Oilers have no choice but to sign him to a 3 year extension.

Hall never has been strong in penalty shots/shootouts. Some of the leagues pure goal scorers are not good in them. For example....
Stamkos for his career is 4/17 - 24%. Iginla is another guy that's not very good in shootouts.
But because a guy isn't great on a penalty shot we should trade him? Who needs a 30 goal scorer when your good in the shootout right?

Feb.6, 1981 vs Jets No Goal (Goalie - Pierre Hamel)
Jan.16,1982 @ Leafs No Goal (Goalie - Bunny Larocque)
Nov.24,1982 vs Caps No Goal (Goalie - Pat Riggin)
Jan.19, 1983 vs Nucks Goal (Goalie - Richard Brodeur)
Apr.28, 1984 @ North Stars Goal (Goalie - Don Beaupre)
This guy was 2-5 lifetime on penalty shots, what a scrub.
riiight.... you can have all of the intangibles but the one that counts is the one he is missing.
Scoring on breakaways isn't exactly the intangible that counts. Being able to score with a quick wrist shot the way he does makes up for his breakaway issues.

Finishing when it counts is. Not breakaways. game on his stick twice so far this season, and...
Agreed. If he's willing to take a salary cut to something like 2 years @2 million, I'm ok with keeping him. He's not a top 4 dman, and as long as he's paid accordingly, why wouldn't we keep him?

I think we take a stance. He wants to be here then he takes bottom pairing money and one year deals. We've paid him more than what he's been worth, time for these so called players that want to be here to take a discount.

Hall was also tied for 11th in the league last year with 7 Game Winning Goals. And played far less games than anyone on that list.
But I mean...the season is two and a half weeks old, and twice he's had the game on his stick. After this much time into a lockout season and at some point you have to say enough is enough at trade a player that's not burying 100% of his chances.
