Definitely frustrating. But I really haven't been letting it get to me. I know they aren't at 100% yet, so I know things will get better.

String together some four or five game winning streaks and suddenly games like last night become the hiccups and not a foreshadowing.

Not as bad of a game as most are making it out to be. We looked dominant for the first 5 minutes, but after you fail to capitalize on so many chances early on, letting them score first is bound to be a huge blow to the team.

Some of the positives:
- Kreider looked more comfortable. That shot was wicked. Glad he's on the board.
- Miller looked far better than the last time I had watched him with the Whale. Really brought a lot of great energy to the team. I thought he made a couple of poor decisions with the puck, but overall, he was one of the best players on the ice.
- The PP that featured none of the big guns and had Miller and Stepan on the half-walls was one of the best efforts I've seen this year from this team.

Negatives:
- Richards continues to look terrible. After all of the assurances I received when I was on the fence about signing him, that "fitness nut" stuff seems to be quite the myth. The flu excuse isn't going to fly. Especially when Chris Kunitz is scoring 4 goals in a game while he's sick.
- PP continues to be an abomination. No killer instinct. Just 5 lazy guys not putting in any effort.
- Turnovers. I've never seen a team fumble with the puck this much.
- PK and shot blocking. Apparently this team forgot how to do both.

Plenty to work on. It'll be interesting to see if Miller can maintain this pace, or if he was simply riding the adrenaline for his NHL debut. The player I watched in CT was not an NHLer. He was a different animal on the ice last night.

Devil fans were crowing how he'd be in such great shape and have his timing would be better than everybody else's because he was tearing up the KHL but it's starting to look like he left his heart back in St. Petersberg and that isn't a good thing when you have 13 more yrs on the deal!

Maybe he's sulking after being embarrassed having a 38 yr old role player named Captain and rightfully sees it as a slap in the face but everything he did screamed "me first" in how he handled the whole coming back thing so he has no be to blame bt himself for not bing looked at as the leader of that team.

And no Johnny Mac to blame for Kovalchuk being a dog when they need him to step up in Zachs absence yet again so it will be fun watching all the bending over backwards devil fans make for this guy being everything Lou used to be against as far as the individual above the team.

We've been saying that since the 0-2 start. Fact of the matter is they've had 1 period this season where they've won 2 in a row, and the last time they had done that, including last season and playoffs was in March of last year.

Just watched it. Why DZ has over 20 votes for MoM beats me. I think he was all over the place tonight (except where he was supposed to be) and lost most of the puck battles. He was absolutely one of the Rangers worst players tonight. He's been great so far though, so hopefully he'll bounce back.

Voted Staal, Strålman and Asham. Staal and Strålman both played solidly in both ends. Just noticed that Strålman only has been on for two GA so far this season. His defensive play is really improved since joining the Rangers, and he made some great passes tonight. Hopefully he'll get some bounces in the offensive zone soon enough. Asham gets the vote for great work ethics and lots of battles won along the boards.

I don't think the Rangers played such a bad game tonight. They could easily have won. But, hockey is a lot about momentum, and not scoring on all the PPs is what killed this game, IMO. Most of the forwards look snake bitten when getting a scoring chance. I still think they'll turn it around.
Glad to see Miller and Kreider playing. Powe didn't impress me at all, but it's his first game with a new team so I'll cut him some slack. I think he will bring a lot down the road, especially on the PK.

I thought Powe did well for having 1 skate with the team. He had a few good hits and was defensively responsible. His speed is evident and he works well along with boards. Should fit well.

I thought he looked like he was running a different system than everyone else and it kind of confused people. He was playing a puck pursuit/pressure PK while the Rangers usually play a positional PK where they block passing and shooting lanes. His teammates seemed a little confused and collapsed down lower and let him run back and forth

I doubt that's what Tortorella wants to be happening allt he time so I'm guessing they'll go over that with him soon...

THANK YOU!!!!

A stacked top line is fun to watch and all, but these guys aren't producing at all. Spread the love around. Nash can create space on his own, bump him down to the 2nd line if you need to.

Staal blew it. It wasn't a great save. He either needs to bury it by shooting harder and then it goes in even after hitting fatso or actually hit the two foot wide hole between Marty's legs as he slid across. Also, if Nash doesn't slide into the net, then that chance is a goal. Fatso had a very fortunate night in addition to playing well. He also gave Gabby half the net and Gabby hit him in the chest while he was leaning. As they sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Last night Marty was both.

That was a tough one for Staal to one time. He's a lefty shooter and either the puck has to come all the way across his body for him to shoot it, or he has to try to bring his stick across and push the puck at the net. He can't really lean into the shot and easily get a lot of force on it

Miller's passing was really awesome.

Granted, it was awesome in the WJCs, too, yet no one there could handle it. In the pros, there is much more ability to accept his passes. Kid looked great.

6 goalie system sucks balls. Torts needs to abandon that and more back to a more offensive style. When you have the best goalie in the world you shouldn't need six goalies.

Last night was a heart breaker. The team looks awkward, but with all the new pieces it should not be surprising. 7 new faces up front will take some time to mesh. Some of the vets look very tight. Miller and Kreider looked great. That play from Kreider to Miller to Staal was VERY nice. Staal buries it and we are likely having a very different discussion today.

I saw the shift you are talking about, the confusion actually stemmed from both defensemen (I think it was MDZ and someone else) going to the same side of the net leaving the whole side open. That is what led to them collapsing. Powe was in the right position, everyone else just collapsed.

Now that's just mean

In all seriousness I don't think it's the deep collapsing, shot blocking defensive system that is causing this team to struggle, even if it does hurt our transition game a little. The main struggles right now seem to be setting up in the zone, getting an effective cycle going, generating a forecheck and recovering dumps. Most of this is fixable.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I think that a lot of the Devils success against the Rangers has to do with the fact that it just seems like their actual players hate the Rangers more than the Rangers players hating the Devils. I know both fan bases hate each other pretty equally but I'm not sure the Rangers 'embrace the hate' as much as the Devils do. It would be interesting to hear what Devils fans think about that too.

This logic is suspect. My theory happens to be that people like to complain when things aren't going great.
we were in first place most of last season, ppl loved to complain even then.

Yeah, the six goalie system makes perfect sense when you have Henrik Lundqvist in net.

I didnt know Richards or Nash werent here to help out with goals.

Thats interesting.

For all the boasting about Nash, he has yet to impress me. His great two-way play and physicality isnt doing much in the standings is it? No. His goals do though. All two of them. You know, what he was brought here to do.

Also, I can see why "should use his teammates more" is under flaw in his scouting report. He likes to hold onto the puck a bit too much. Puck hog? You bet. And dont give me the 5 assists BS, because those were largely situations where he HAD to pass the puck, otherwise he wouldve gotten chewed by everyone.

The anti-Euro/pro-NA bias here is astounding. Look no further than this board per Gaborik/Nash.
Are you ****** serious??? It has nothing to do with anti Euro vs pro NA bias to know that Gaborik can't carry Nash's jockstrap as an all around player pal!! I am sick and tired of Gabby's half hearted efforted all too often with all of his goals squeezed into a precious few games during the season. I can't wait till his contract is up and he is the **** out of here!!

Drew, he's out best scorer. There's no question. He's not the same slacking sniper he used to be. He's backchecking now, even blocking shots.

He's not a puck carrier, but he's an elite scorer. 3rd in the entire NHL in goals last year.
