I believe Anaheim has some of he best goaltending depth in the league with Fasth, Andersen & Gibson all behind Hiller. If the coaching staff believes in a Fath / Andersen combo going forward, I think sending Hiller to the Leafs makes a tonne of sense. He's got one year left at $4.5 and is liked by Carlyle.
What would it take?
Anaheim could lose Selanne, Koivu, Getzlaf and Perry next year.
I like Kessel, solid 25-35 goal scorer who would be great in any teams top 6. but i really feel that the under rating of Hiller here smacks of Eastern bias. Hiller is top 5-8 goalies in the world right now.
Kessel hasn't scored under 30 for 4 years in a row now.... and he's 25
I think most have agreed that Hiller is not getting the Ducks Kessel.
If I am the leafs I wait till the offseason and go after Backstrom. I think the Wild may let him go as they have Hackett due to come up. If they keep Backstrom than the leafs (or any other team lookign for tender help) should go after Hackett.
If the price is right , Nonis does it. If not , he dosn't. Plain and simple. Nonis is not under any pressure to acquire a goaltender this moment. Our tandem of Reimer/Scrivens has been great thus far and we're winning games. Honestly I have my fingers crossed we don't touch this at all. I think Anaheim fans will be disapointed with the return he's going to bring.
