As said earlier, Mash is plenty tough in the fighting dept. He manhandled Reaves and did pretty well against Parros who has become a top heavyweight in the NHL. I'd like to see him get a look with the Rangers and see what he can do in the non-fighting dept.

Rangers get Nick Palimieri and Darrell Powe from Minny for Mike Rupp. Rangers will send Palimieri to AHL

Awards:
Palmieri will be a great addition up in CT. And he still has upside as well.

Palmieri will give the Whale yet another big guy who can and will drop the gloves. I am sensing a pattern here.

Big bodies now on this Whale team to go along with some speed. Here's hoping to some consistency in the second half of the season.

These are kids. They don't need an "excuse" for not taking the same development path as everyone else. It's also important to note that the Whalepack lost a lot of talent this summer in Erixon, Redden, Zucc, and JAM. It's a tough situation for a bunch of greenhorns to step into.
Not to mention the coaching nightmare when trying to run a team where your players can vary so often, to the point that they can be there for tonight's game, and then gone the next game you play only days later...

I feel bad for AHL coaches, they have lots of pressure on them to develop prospects, but they also want to win, yet those players they develop can be take right away from them, severely limiting their chances to win

Only 11 forwards and 6 dmen on the roster, two injured (Hrivik and Bourque)... a move or two probably coming up for the Whale, unless they go with only 17 skaters tomorrow... which would be kind of "cheap"

If Mashinter has the speed and hockey sense to play a forechecking cycle game, he'll be set. True heavyweights play 2-3 mins at best and coaches like Tortorella simply won't give them a chance unless they can keep the puck pinned deep.

He isn't really a true heavyweight. More in the Tom Sestito mold (minus the boneheaded temper).

That's actually what I meant. A true heavyweight, even if we could find one cheap, wouldn't get the ice time. It's much more important to be in the Prust mold where fighting can be another skillset that gets you in the line-up but you have to do something else that gets you the ice time. If a guy like Mashinter has the wheels and the smarts to be able to forecheck effectively, he could make the big show.

Sorry if this has been covered in previous pages, but what is the prognosis on Hrivik? Is he shutdown completely or is he working out/skating/etc?

Pretty bad game from the Whale tonight. They scored 3 in the third (two ugly goals and one shorthanded snipe from Tessier) to come back from down 3. The first two periods they looked awful. What an incredibly boring team to watch. Think they had 10 shots on goal, had absolutely no flow. At least they got a point out of this one.

It runs in the family.

As always, thanks for the report, JI! I was expecting a bit more out of the Whale this season.

I was too. With these AHL vets you never really know what you're going to get until you see them play, so I thought they had done a good job signing guys like Collins and Pyett to really shore up the blueline. Wrooooong. Right now something is off and they need to fix it soon if they want to make the playoffs.

But boy can this team drop the gloves...hahahahaha.

At this point it probably has a little bit to do with chemistry. Lots of movement in the past 2-3 weeks.

How was the Urbom/Wilson fight?

Funny Wiseman was first star cause of the SO goal, but he was -2 with no points the rest of the game.

How was Dylan Mcilrath? 0-0-0 0 PIMS doesn't say much

Around the league:

Grachev and Pock with goals last night

USHL scoring wiz Daniil Tarasov of Worcester has been looking pretty good. He signed with Worcester, what if teams want to sign him? Sharks get priority? Need some help.
