Speculation - Pierre Gauthier to replace Savard

http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/NAS...=1112274690734

Speculation has Canadiens' director of scouting, Pierre Gauthier, being promoted. Gauthier has served as general manager of both the Ottawa Senators and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

They pretty much said this on 100% last night. They said there was no communication between Gainey and Savard and that Gainey went straight to Gauthier, who he trusted.

If it's Gauthier, I hope he will not share the farm team and he will sign a couple of good AHL vets to an AHL contract...

If nobody does, we'll then be able to learn what was Gauthier's role prior to Savard's departure....

Absolutely. I'm curious to see if it will have a real effect. If it does, I know a AHL team that would not miss Savard....But again, we need to know how tied Savard's hands were and if Gauthier will have a little more room to play in....

True. That's what our friend at 110%, Gagnon, said that there was no relation whatsoever between Savard and Gainey and that he wasn't used that much. Though, we kept hearing that he was traveling a lot scouting our prospects.....He at least at to do that work.....

HF posters, who else.

No one knows the upcoming prospects better.
No one knows the CBA better.
No one knows the pro level talent better.

Brunet has a very good piece on Savard and the Habs today in La Presse. Savard has done solid things for the Habs and got tossed out by Gainey, who wanted his friends around him, instead of the most competent people. Sad.

Pierre Gauthier is over freaking rated.

I did not read the article but I was thinking the same thing when I saw that Savard was no longer with the Habs. I even took a few secs to recheck making sure it was truly Andre Savard...

I don't like this move but it could still turn out ok; let's wait and see.

Now that you mention it, there seems to be a whiff of cronyism in the Habs management.

Wouldn't you hire people that you have already gone to war with, and won?

That said.... Gauthier.... is his track record that great? When he was with the Sens, they sucked.... when he was with the Ducks, the sucked...

Why is he considered that good?

(p.s. I realize it takes a few years for a GM's picks to work out- even so...)

I am not sure if that was him or not. Either way, Berard had refused to play for Ottawa, and the two were picked after each other.... so... it was a forced trade. And... IF... Berard does not lose an eye.... he is a top D.
