Montreal-Colorado

It's simple :

Tomas Kaberle
for
Matt Hunwick

Colorado badly needs an offensive dman. All together their d-squad has 7 assists in 9 games which is less production than Rafael Diaz alone.

Kaberle deserves to be a regular in the NHL but since his value is low, I guess that Montreal will have to take some salary back.

Habs would glady accept a bag of pucks for Kaberle, so any player the Avalanche offer will do.

Hunwick has negative value

I'd rather like to see Kaberle being claimed on waivers (than being traded for a player like Hunwick), but I don't think it would happened.

I wouldn't do it.

Hunwick is signed for 1.6M next year, I would wait until the trade deadline when there should be a lot of buyers with there only being 48 games, everyone is going to think they could make the playoffs, and see if anyone wants to take Kaberle on for a pick.

If not I'd do this trade for the simply reason of saving Molson money so we can buy out Hunwick instead of Kaberle.

He doesn't. He's a bottom pairing d-man who's forced to play way over his head.

I would of course shop Kaberle aggressively before this, and if anybody else came along and topped your offer... e.g. by offering a 7th round pick - but hopefully even higher... then I would of course take the pick instead.

But failing that, if nobody else in the league, anywhere, is willing to give up a tangible positive value asset for Kaberle... then ok, I'll take Hunwick. Worst case, he's a cheaper buyout, so it saves the Habs some $$$ on that front.

You know how some players stop being players and become a contract? Kaberle is a contract and Avs would be insane to touch that contract.

2nd round pick (if Gaustad can get a first Kaberle certainly could fetch a 2nd)

Bordeleau surprisingly has been great for the Avs. I don't really think the Avs would want to take on Kaberle's contract.

No from the Avs in a second,

and if we take Kaberle, one of our Dmen goes back, I'd think O'Brien or Zanon before Hunwick.

I'd rather have Kaberle for O'Byrne. No need for another softie d-man.

I'd give him a shot. He's only signed for one more year after all. It'd be worth the risk.

Avsfan09 original statement is a bit of an exaggeration "surprisingly good" is pushing it. Borderleau is nothing more than a 4th line fighter. He has been decent at this role, he has taken a few too many silly penalties. But he has been tolerable. Ideally he'd only play in games where you thought you might need a fighter, other than that he should be riding the pine.

you have to keep in mind that it's a 4th liner too. Is penalties are the only things you can reproach him in my book.

Armstrong and Kaberle for Hunwick and Bordeleau

I think he would be a decent fit in Colorado. They are desperate for anyone to help the transition game.

Of course you would.

Why are there so many Avs proposals with so many uninformed proposals floating around in them lately?

O'Brien. Done. He's cheaper and used to be a 7th d

That being said, honestly Paul Gaustad got a 1st round pick and Hal Gill got a 2nd and a prospect. Why the heck wouldn't Kaberle get a 2nd round pick from someone near the deadline?

I'm good with any Kaberle deal for Hunwick/Zanon/SOB sort of deal. Hunwick would be preferred just so Sacco quits putting him on the top pairing.

Because he has an extra year at 4.25M when the cap is going down. If he was UFA like the players you mentioned, maybe.

Sacco agrees 'cause that opens the door wider for SOB to play top minutes.

That 17+ million in cap space the Avs have next year won't accommodate 4.25?
