Fixing Washington

The Caps have been struggling and at this rate they wont make the playoffs, so they need something to turn them around, these are a couple trades that can help do just that.

#1 getting a goalie(I know another Lu trade but bear with me)

Washington trades C Brooks Laich, LW/C Filip Forsberg and G Michal Neuvirth for G Roberto Luongo, LW Mason Raymond and a 2013 3rd round draft pick.

-Both the caps goalies havent played well enough. Holtby is not a starter YET, and Neuvirth is just average. Luongo gives them a solid elite goalie. Raymond gives them depth and secondary scoring.
-Van gets a good 3rd line center, top prospect and a decent backup for Schneider. I do think Was would do this trade given that they continue to play poorly with bad goaltending(dont tell me their goaltending hasnt been bad, because they have been.)

#2 improving defense

Washington trades D Jeff Schultz, LW Wojtek Wolski, and a 2013 2nd round draft pick for D Keith Yandle and RW Paul Bissonette.

-Phx has a lot of young D-men coming up that can replace Yandle(Rundblad, Gormely etc...). Schultz can replace Yandle until one of the younger guys steps up. Wolski adds depth to Phx`s offense and a 2nd round draft pick in a deep draft
*If this is not enough what would be needed to get Yandle out of Phx?
-Was gets a good defenseman to help them in their own zone. their defense has been pretty bad as well. and Biznasty gives them character and grit.

# Getting Ovi some help up front

If Ovi can convince Radulov to come to the NHL to play with him they can make a very deadly line. also if the KHL allows this, due to contract with KHL teams. I think Ovi can influence Radulov into coming to NA for at least one year, or until Kuznetzov is ready.

Sign Radulov 2 years 4mill per.( it will take an over payment to get Radulov back in NA)

This gives that line another threat other than Ovi. Players will have to shutdown both these speedy wingers now as well as Backstrom.

Roster afters trades and healthy(cap geek is still screwed up, but all this fits under that cap amazingly)

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Radulov
Raymond-Ribeiro-Johansson
Ward-Perrault-Brouwer
Chimera-Beagle-Bissonette(just cuz)
-Hendricks

Yandle-Greene
Carlson-Alzner
Poti-Orlov
-Hamerlick

Luongo
Holtby

what do you think?

No, we can't just rip off Washington because you have them ripping off Phoenix.

No way in hell we do Vancouver trade.

Phoenix trade is closer but I'm sure we can get more than just Yandle for those.

Don't even know if that PHX trade would work in NHL 13.

What? Caps are robbing Phx in that trade.

All though it might be even since Vancouver are robbing Caps in the first one.

Radulov is a nice thought though. (More aimed at OP)

Caps say **** no to #1, Coyotes say **** no to #2.

Goalies and puck moving defensemen are just about the only things we have plenty of anyway.

The Caps don't do the first trade.

See what their GM said about obtaining Luongo.

Both trades would have been more realistic if Vancouver sent something useful to Phoenix.

You're aware that the Schultz who plays for Washington is Jeff Schultz, right? Not Justin.

no...the caps and their salary cap management is committed to the young goalies.

yandle is great. caps dont need him. they need a veteran as in older than mike green, karl alzner and john carlson to play defense first. yandle is another young defenseman with a skill set the caps have plenty of.

and radulov....the caps let semin go. three strikes.

Basically you made a whole thread about Washington so you could just ship Luongo off to them? You should have just posted in the Luongo trade thread.

Drop one game and it's a .937 sv%.

He's had one bad game and been stellar since. It's called small sample size.

Phoenix gets robbed....... You'd need to send them quite a bit more than Wolski, Schultz, and a 2nd. Wolski already spent time in Phoenix, they probably don't want him back.

Yeah, drop Neuvirth's bad games and he looks good too.

Forsberg doesn't enter the conversation, get real. I'm not even sure what I'd prefer between Neuvirth at 1 or Schneider at 4.

Isn't Radulov still Nashville Property?

Yeah, they'd have to trade for his rights(would probably cost a 7th or something).

Schneider's had one bad game. Neuvirth has had multiple. That's all you need to know. Colorado was willing to give up the 11th overall for Schneider in 2011, before he put up even better numbers in 2012 and managed to take over Luongo in the playoffs. His value has shot up since then.

Caps issue isn't as much personnel as much as it is identity, coaching, and potentially two players (8, 52) who are not strong enough of a presence in the locker room.
