According to whom? Pens fans are very happy about this. I wish the guy the best, but I'm glad he's gone.

Pretty darn good skater. Has a decent shot, and is adept at jumping into the rush. His downfall is he's just too inconsistent defensively, resulting in more turnovers and missed assignments than you'd like.

Does nothing well. Does nothing bad. Better when he plays aggressive. When he plays timid, he gets owned all the time.

The caveat is he could be a better defenseman elsewhere. Bylsma likes all of his defenseman to play like Bobby Orr which has caused issues in the past for guys like Michalek, Martin, Orpik, etc.

This probably means Boychuk is sticking and Shero was making room for that to happen. The most significant part of this move in my opinion.

As for Lovejoy? He sucks is the scouting report. Look at the reaction of pens fans. The Ducks saw something though.

pens have far better options with despres and bortuzzo coming along so well and niskanen coming back soon. lovejoy isn't horrible, but he's not good either. career 6-7 guy imo. he has some decent skills and skating ability and might be better in a more structured system. pittsburgh's is a bit too freeflowing and his mistakes are glaring.

He's a decent puck mover who is soft and takes way more unnecessary risks than a #7 defenseman should take.

Anaheim fans.... never mind those Pens fans here who go out of their way to call Lovejoy useless and try to hype Shero for getting anything for him.

What you need to know is that Ben Lovejoy can skate and play in the kind of system Boudreau has you guys on, and that he is surely a good 7th D-man who is cheap as hell. There is absolutely no way he would have been traded from the Pens for this return if it wasn't because of our strength in numbers/upcoming D-men and the roster limit issue with Niskanen returning from IR.

It was about deciding whether Despres goes back to the AHL (big fat no) or whether we should be dealing/waiving Tangradi, Jeffrey or Boychuck instead. The latter all have more potential upside than Lovejoy and would be more needed at the Pens if they make it, so there you go.

Quality depth pick up for Anaheim. Better solution for the Pens than giving up a useful player for free like we did with Brian Strait. All are happy.

we overreact to how bad he actually is, but he's really not the worst you could do. he's prone to making a lot of mistakes but he has the size and skating to make something of himself.

personally, i can't see him being anything more than a #6/#7 d-man. if Boudreau can somehow make him work in that role (or even a higher one), kudos to him.

What's his salary?

Interesting move as Fowler is not on IR I believe.

Lovejoy has good size and mobility. He likes to join the rush so he probably fits into BB's aggressive system or at least the way I remember his system being in Washington.

The only problem with the kid is that he makes some bad decisions here and there like turnovers etc. He may weed some of those bad decisions out if he plays regularly but that wasn't happening here. He was usually scratched and had to constantly jump back into the lineup pretty rusty.

Ducks biggest need on the blueline right now is a stop-gap defenseman who can move the puck. Fowler is out, Vatanen isn't physically ready. Next season should be a different story.

This is good news.

Cheap. 525k.

I think he'll play better for you guys than us. Bylsma has a problem with being stubborn about young forwards and wanting his defensive defenseman to be Paul Coffey rushing up the ice.

This sounds alright to me as long as we're pairing him with a guy like Lydman or Allen whose going to stay at home and always make the safe plays. What I don't like is that this must mean Fowler is out for longer than originally thought... not that he will amount to anywhere near what Fowler is, but that we grabbed another NHL defenseman.

It doesn't mean Fowler is going to be out longer. It means they've decided where they think Sami should be playing when Cam comes back.

It could mean a few things, no way of knowing at the moment.

He could be taken Hendry's spot.

He isn`t that bad. The main reason Pens fans are cheering is, that he (or someone else they generally like better) may just as well have ended up on waivers, if it wasn`t for a minor trade like this.

Considering that they're similar players, and how shaky Vatanen is right now, that is the most likely conclusion at the moment.

he's adept at joining the rush and is beloved in the locker-room.
