Compliance Buyout: Erik Cole or Tomas Kaberle

I will preface this by acknowledging it is far too early for any definitive, but assuming devil's advocate for moment. Both have played awful since the start of the season, although Kaberle has been consistently bad from day one. Excluding a drastic resurgence from Cole as the season wears on. Should we consider him a buyout candidate? He is signed a year longer and were he to retire we would be stuck with both his and Kaberle's cap. I also believe Kaberle could be sold for peanuts at the deadline due to how many teams are in need of a temporary fix on defense. Cole, on the other hand, is absolutely worthless right now.

No way for Cole
the question should be, buy out Kaberle or not?

I fully agree that Erik Cole has been awful lately, but come on man, this is kinda silly. Cole had his best season of his career last year, and that was after playing like **** for his first 8-10 games. Hopefully that is the case this year.

The guy has historically had poor starts. I just hope he gets it together sooner rather than later. They won't buy him out. He won't go from top line one year to off the team for nothing.

Also, think about the guy's value. No one will want Kaberle at that price, but Cole brings a lot to a team. A GM would be stupid to buy him out and lose him for nothing.

I'm really really hoping he can turn it around, but 95% of the time he's on the ice, Cole just looks like he has no interest in playing and his head is elsewhere. Not sure if he's a buyout candidate, but the difference between last season and now is like night and day

LOL let's be serious now!!!

As horrible as Cole is... let's not forget he scored 35 goals last season.

And if he does. It counts against the cap, unless I misread the new CBA.

Yep, hence how I posted the thread. I'm merely playing devil's advocate.

Habs fans are freaking stupid sometimes. Cole scored 35 ****ing goals last season for us and had a very slow start. Let's take a breather here, shall we?

Kaberle.. but to say he's been awful is a complete overstatement.

What a ridiculous thread though.

*sighs*

Did some of you miss I specifically said I'm only playing devil's advocate and right now is too early? By definition, this would insinuate Cole not rebounding. That is the scenario I was painting. My immediate concern in said scenario is retirements now counting against the cap. Unless I am mistaken there. We could get stuck with both Cole and Kaberle in dead space.

Once again, devil's advocate. That is all.

Buy out Pacioretty, not even a goal! He will probably never score again in his career.

Well obviously Cole isnt playing great... but he did the same last year.. veteran like him will eventually turn the swith on... and the thing is he might not even do it in purpose... the engine will just start roaring again like that.. off course eventually he will slow down he isnt getting any younger and his comments surely left a trace in our minds but.. its not 9 games that will indicate that lol.

Nah, we'll just champion the Kaberle trade even if now we might buy him out, right?

Bourne, Cole's contract isn't 35+. If he retires, it does NOT count against the cap...

kaberle for sure...cole has trade value unlike kabs....not that i think we should trade him..but its always an option and we could definitely get a good return from a contending team looking for that missing piece...cole would be a great addition on a top team...but with that being said i think we`ve shown enough to proove that we could very well be a top team this year..so lets hang on to him for a bit.

Cole was traded back to Carolina after a horrid season in Edmonton for O'Sullivan and a second. This preceded his current contract and the vast majority cited it as ridiculous. If he does not rebound, I do not see any team have even the slightest interest in offering much of anything.

Aye, but I recall early retirements now counting. If I am mistaken, then my apologies for the misread. That is what I based this on.

Buy out Kaberle and Cole and Gionta and lastly Pleks because he flubbed that breakaway!

Patrick O'Sullivan and a second was all he got before. If he plays awful all season, he wouldn't garner anything near that.
