Ducks goaltending is underrated

Looking back at some threads I found this:

15. Anaheim(Hiller/Drouin-Deslauriers)(Hiller's great, but extremely weak at backup)

Maybe last year. But this is the ducks new "backup" goalie

Maybe too early to tell but I think the Hiller-Fasth goalie tandem is very underrated.

If Vancouver didn't get GIFTED power play after power play on Friday night, the Ducks could easily be 4-0. Hiller was great despite playing down a man most of the game. But last night Viktor was an ANIMAL! Love that guy.

Hiller is a pretty good goalie, but he sure got ventilated on Friday.

I watched the Ducks game with my roommate last night. Fasth looked really good. Hiller-Fasth looks pretty good.

Vancouver still had to convert on those chances. Can't give that team, or any team for that matter, that many PP's, whether they were deserved or not.

And don't forget Gibson down the pipeline.

Hiller looked bad on Friday, Fasth was decent last night. I see the Ducks goalies as middle of the road, right now. If Hiller gets hot, and Fasth lives up to expectations, I could see them ranked pretty high.

Kind of hard to win a game when you score zero goals.

Maybe Hiller should have joined the rush a couple of times.

You made a thread because you didn't like one comment in a previous thread? Fasth has played one game and only faced 21 shots. Hiller has allowed 12 goals already.

Plus Gibson and Andersen. But Hiller was NOT good against Vancouver. Yes our defense was wetting the bed all game, but he let in some softies. One thing I'll say about Hiller though, is that he never starts well. When he finds his rhythm he can dominate.

and it too early to tell with Fasth

Hate to say it but Hiller has always had the sharks number. Always thought he was a solid goaltender.

How's he overrated? most people say he's a middle of the pack kind of goaltender.

Hiller is only pretty good and Fast has played EFFIN' 1 game.

Hiller might be good defensively, but he is absolutely atrocious on offense.

It's like the offense dies when the puck hits his stick.

A goalie playing well against Nashville isn't anything to brag about. Fasth did look solid though.

Hiller before the vertigo bout was borderline top 10 goaltender in the league, but he hasn't shown the dominance that he had back then since. Tough situation, since he's damn good if he gets back to that level, but I don't know if he'll get back to that level.

1 game for a backup isn't anything I'd weigh too heavily, but it's nice to have someone who might push Hiller.

If the Ducks stopped taking PENALTIES they wouldn't have been short handed so often. Wow, capital letters really do work.

The past 2 seasons Hiller practically won January for us. He was also the ONLY western conference goalie in the 2011 all star game. He deserves more credit than he is getting from non Ducks fans but he does have slow starts that ruin his rep.

Also Fasth was the best goalie in the SEL last two years. Last guy to do that was Lundqvist. Not saying he's elite but he should be recognized for more than his 1 game.

I don't doubt Hiller's skill, only whether or not vertigo/concussions will be a problem for him in the future.

Oh come off that, the refs called ticky tack penalties against the ducks, and pretty much nothing against the Canucks. If they called it the same for both teams we likely still would have lost but at least we would have had a chance.

Had to bump this as Fasth had a shutout, and is now 4-0 and atop the stats sheet on goalies on NHL.com. Hiller as your backup is not too shabby.
