All USA Olympic hockey games (men's and woman's) will be broadcast live and not on tape delay. NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus confirms: All US Olympic hockey games (men's and women's games) will air live on television.

Interesting, so you know NBC will be pushing the NHL to get the agreement done ASAP between the NHL -IOC and the IIHF.

You'd have to think the conversation goes like this.

Comcast exec: "Hey Gary, so you remember how after we signed that ten year deal with you and you told us there wouldn't be a lockout?"

Bettman: "uhhh yeah, well you see...."

Comcast: "The Olympics are very important to us Gary."

Bettman: "I understand, it's just...."

Comcast: "I don't think I made myself clear, the Olympics are very important to us Gary."

Why would you make a marginal guy like JJ captain when you have three NHL captains and one recent NHL captain on the team?

How often do you follow USA Hockey?

I think you pretty much nailed it..
As much as I dislike Gary for a number of reasons, I got to give him props, he's a slick NY. City lawyer. He defiantly subscribes to the "Act As IF" rule of life.

Jack Johnson would be my unquestioned choice for Captain. With the amount of time he's committed to USA Hockey over the years when worse players refused to show up, he's earned it.

I'll echo Xokkeu on this, if you don't know why Jack Johnson is highly likely to be the captain in 2014, you probably don't pay much attention to Team USA.

The guy loves representing his country and has shown more commitment to USA Hockey than any other NHLer has. He is to Team USA what Ryan Smyth and Shane Doan were to Team Canada a few years ago.

I also wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he ended up becoming the Blue Jackets next captain.

Parise is really the only other player I could see getting the captaincy.

It's funny. I 've heard of some questioning if he should even play for Team USA.

The guy's a born leader though and in a short tournament, you need a guy who bleeds your country's colors. Kind of like Peter Forsberg I guess..

Well Peter Forsberg is one of the greatest players of all time. Jack Johnson is great, I love him, but he's not close to Peter's level.

Johnson, barring a complete and utter collapse in play, will at the very minimum but the 7th defenseman just because of his passion. If he isn't, then USA Hockey have completely lost their way and the program.

Yah I wasn't meaning in terms of talent level or any of that. I meant of importance to the program. Not on that level I agree. Peter Forsberg should be considered by most Swedes as the most popular Rock Star, Athlete, Religious figure, and Politician.

Team USA 2014 Projected Lineup Guesses

Well with the other thread discussing Canada and the Olympics a year away, figured it'd be fun to speculate.

Possible forwards

Kane
Parise
Kessel
Backes
Bobby Ryan
Pavelski
Pominville
Pacioretty
Dustin Brown
Kesler
Oshie
Stepan
JVR
Callahan
Stastny
Cole
Wheeler
Galchenyuk
Malone
Okposo

Possible d-men

Suter
Yandle
Jack Johnson
McDonagh
Orpik
Carlson
Shattenkirk
Fowler
Byfuglien
Erik Johnson
Justin Faulk
Paul Martin
Gleason
Carle
Bogosian

Possible goaltenders:

Quick
Miller
Anderson
Howard
Schneider
Thomas?

Who do you guys think makes the team out of this list and what are your projected lines? I may have missed some guys.

We lack elite offensive firepower but we have a lot of good all around players and strong goaltending.

These guys, but no Fowler?
If Fowler continues playing like he has to start this season he'll make it very hard to keep him off the team. His skating could be a HUGE asset on the big ice. Not to mention he and JJ had some great chemistry at the WC last year.

Also this what I would personally like to see.

Parise-Kesler-Kessel
Ryan-Stastny-Kane
Pacioretty-Pavelski-Pominville
Brown-Backes-Callahan
(Galchenyuk/Malone)

Yandle-Suter
Fowler-J. Johnson
Mcdonagh-E. Johnson
(Shattenkirk/Carlson)

Quick
Miller
Schneider

Prolly Parise with the C and Suter and Callahan with the A's.

Yeah I missed Fowler, he should be on the list of course and a very likely candidate to be top 6. I forgot he was American to be honest.

Parise-Kesler-Kane
Ryan-Statsny-Kessel
Brown-Backes-Callahan
JVR-Pavelski-Oshie
Patches

Suter-Yandle
McDonagh-Fowler
JJ-Shattenkirk
Carlson

Quick
Miller
Howard

Possible JVR on the off and Ryan moved around too.

Mix and match Kesler and Kane with the bottom two as see fit because of their opposing skillsets. If rosters expand Pominville and maybe, just maybe Seth Jones.

Anyone think Galchenyuk could make the team? He will be just turning 20 around Olympic time and is having a solid season so far in Montreal, if he continues to have a good rookie year I could see him making the team. We are really lacking a skilled play making center. I'd say that may be our biggest hole. I don't know what happened to Stastny..

I'd take Pominville over Oshie or JVR. Team USA has enough 2-way wingers, can't leave off probably the best passer on the team.

Not necessarily a "young" team, but not a ton of grizzled vets, like Langenbrunner. Who is captain material out of the bunch? Brown, Backes, Callahan only NHL captains.

Pominville definitely over JVR right now. Outside of a good 10 games to start the season, JVR hasn't shown that he is good enough to make the team.

I encourage criticisms because I don't know which guys are more versatile and which guys can't play out of position because these national teams can't be perfect for positions. But I will give my best shot at it

Parise-Pavelski-Kane
Kessel-Stastny-Pominville
Pacioretty-Kesler-Backes (could swap Kesler and Backes)
Brown-Callahan-Oshie
Cole

Suter-Yandle (I know they are both LH, but I would give it a shot)
Mcdonagh-Carlson
J.Johnson-Fowler
Shattenkirk/Byfuglien

Quick
Miller
Schneider

EDIT- wow did I forget Ryan

if put him in maybe over Pominville pushing him down, or instead of Pacioretty on the third pushing him down.

In this situation which we've been debating on the US board is possibly Jack Johnson because the guy has been such a warrior for the US. Personally though I'd give it to Callahan. If Pominville's there then he'd get an A. If not,

Callahan with the C and Parise/Suter with the As. The whole Minnesota connection thing going on. If ya need one more maybe Stastny.

I like Oshie a bit too much though. I'm not going to deny it. I see his skills and given a bit more open ice and he can be difficult to handle with the high speed stick handling..

I'd love to see a Kane - Kesler - Kessel line because, well, you know.

I always felt like Parise is perfect captain material.
