I think Iginla makes it.

Stamkos - Crosby - Iginla/MSL
Nash - Spezza - Giroux
J. Staal - E. Staal - Tavares
Richards - Bergeron - Toews
Eberle

Weber - Doughty
Keith - Seabrook
Letang - Pietrangelo
M. Staal

Price
Luongo
XXX

If both MSL and Iginla make it, then J. Staal is gone. I think it'd be a huge surprise if both these guys don't make it based solely out of respect.

Couturier plays for Canada internationally. Missed JvR.
Good call, JVR could make the team if he continues his strong play this year.

It really depends on where he is a year from now. If he has lost his edge and scoring touch, there are guys who do what he does, but better. I think they can replace his leadership. Crosby is going to be captain anyway, and all of the players look up to him as much or more than Iginla at this point, no matter what people on this board say.

He deserves to be there.

Also yeah...Spezza is one of the better faceoff guys in the league and his two-way game has become very good. In fact Alfredsson called him the best defensive player on the team. People just don't give him enough respect.

My team?

James Neal - Sidney Crosby - Corey Perry
Martin St. Louis - Steven Stamkos - Claude Giroux
Rick Nash - Jason Spezza - John Tavares
Taylor Hall - Jonathan Toews - Jordan Eberle

Eric Staal, Evander Kane

Shea Weber - Alex Petriangelo
Duncan Keith - Kris Letang
Marc-Edouard Vlasic - Drew Doughty

Mark Methot, Brent Seabrook

Carey Price
Roberto Luongo
Marc-Andre Fleury
Seriously? Methot?

Huge, huge Iginla fan but, I doubt he will make the team over Eberle or MSL.

Maybe they all make it?

I hope so. Looks like a fringe player right now, should challenge for a spot - maybe as a reserve.

Who knows.

It makes me extra sad to see other fan bases say how Spezza deserves a spot because I know reality is, he's probably not even going to get an invite. Always gets snubbed but Hockey Canada.

No chance, especially considering it's on international ice.

Bouwmeester--can eat minutes, but that's about it
Seabrook--if they want the chemistry with Keith
Giordano--steady and solid, if unspectacular
MacDonald--see Giordano
Boyle--could see it, was there last time around
Bieksa--not sure how well he'd translate to the big ice
Hamonic--too soon?

Really, aside from maybe Campbell or Boyle (or Green, though he might be too one-dimensional), Coburn vs the other guys is pretty much a wash.

Hamhuis?

Boyle and Campbell are two older guys who could take a spot. Bouwmeester would be a deep sleeper. I personally think Vlasic would be a good fit and is undervalued.

Subban over Coburn?

Ferraro's list is essentially who it would be if they were competing today, but within a year we could see guys like Del Zotto, Ju. Schultz, Ellis, Oleksiak, Savard all take big steps forward. Or guys like Green return to form.

And people will automatically scorn this idea, but we should give Phaneuf a look.

There is a HUGE number of guys that could fill up that last spot on the taxi squad, depending on what the GM feels is the biggest need.
There's arguments to be made for Garrison, Bieksa, Giordano, Gorges, Klein, Beauchemin, Jackman, White, Wideman, Demers, MacDonald, or Schenn, and more.

Some people would say it's an easy decision, and there are definitely some names easier to cross of that list than others, but if the GM really wants to defend their gold, they had better consider and take a look at all their options, instead of just taking the easy names.
Thanks. I don't see how Coburn is THAT outrageous of a choice but I would definitely pick someone like Seabrook over him. Some of those guy listed are definitely questionable and could end up a way better choice in about a year down the road.

Honestly, you would be silly not to have Mike Richards on your roster. The guy wins everywhere he plays. It's not some silly made up opinion. It's a fact. He would have to completely fall off for him not be on there. It is still quite a ways away, I know. But, he still has a very high chance on making it.

Considering he was a 19/20 year old, it wasn't that surprising though. Teams will generally try to pick out proven players capable of handling pressure that are more mentally mature and ready for so much pressure. Therefore guys in their prime 22-32 years of age are much more likely candidates for the roster. Teens - not as much - but there'll always be the few exceptions (Doughty at 21 and Toews at 22 were the youngest players).

Stamkos was only in his 2nd pro year and no one was willing to gamble the olympics on the fact that he'd be such a consistent beast. Although Doughty wasn't that far ahead in development, he'd shown consistency and wasn't expected to play such a big role on the team. They were probably just looking to inject some youth into the team.

Stamkos is such a force right now that it'd be asinine for HC to leave him off the roster.

Spezza was snubbed even for the World Championships after calling them to ask them for a spot on the team despite most of Canada's best players being in the playoffs. No way he gets a look when all the best players are available, even if he's ripping up the NHL.

Apparently it is the cool thing to go with all the young players instead of the proven vets.

-Hamhuis should be there, over Girardi and M. Staal.

-Eberle seems to get all the hype but I think Hall's the better player and has killer wheels. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the team, even over Seguin, as a natural winger.

-If Mike Richards is there, I don't think you'll need a player like J. Staal. Rather see Benn slot in on the fourth line, alongside Bergeron (who's better offensively and defensively). How Bergeron missed out on Ferraro's list is beyond me. He's one of the best two-way forwards in the game, up there with Dats, Toews, and Kesler.

-Luongo is a lock. There's no way Canada leaves him off the roster, especially not in favor of Ward or Fleury.

-Needs more Getzlaf. Yeah, he had an off-year but it's not enough to discount the fact that the guy was pretty darn good for Team Canada last Olympics and gels well with Perry. When he's on, he's a monster.

-Not sure if Ferraro's watched the Hawks, over these last few years, but Seabrook is nearly Keith's equal. He should definitely be on the team.

-Needs less Coburn.
