one of the big reasons I had him in my lineup

Honestly, this team is pretty garbage when compared next to Canada. The only reason Canadians compliment it is because they want themselves to think this is actually a competitive tournament. Our goaltending is good and our defence isn't a whole lot worse, but our top scoring lines are embarrassing compared to Canada. When is the US going to develop some actually skilled offensive talent instead of tough two-way forwards?

I think some people are thinking we have a chance because of 2010, but I remember us being dominated by Canada, penned in our own zone the entire game while Miller bailed us out.

I think only Sweden has the talent to maybe compete against Canada..and even then it's not really close.

Yeah, he's pretty much the personification of everything USA Hockey say they want from their players. Only way he doesn't make the team is if he's injured.

With your goaltending, your D will probably look better than Canada's, as sad as I am to admit it.

It sure is a good thing the 1980 team laid down against the Soviets, since they were completely outmatched on paper right?

Single elimination tournaments are unpredictable. Any of 4 or 5 teams could conceivably win the gold next year.

It's funny, but a month ago I didn't think Galchenyuk would warrant consideration that early in his career. Now, I'm not so sure. We just don't have any other center with that much skill.

Definitely wouldn't take him on NA ice. Might be able to fit on the larger surface.

would Scuderi get any consideration ? He can play against the best offensive players and has been a key cog in 2 Stanley Cup teams.

First post here but I can see Byfuglien getting consideration. We need a guy who can pound it on the PP.

With The US I think you'll see more of the same players from last time. I think You'll see more new faces with Canada this time.

A Canadian's attempt at an American roster.

Zach Parise - Joe Pavelski - Patrick Kane
Bobby Ryan - Ryan Kesler - Jason Pominville
Max Pacioretty - David Backes - Phil Kessel
Dustin Brown - Paul Stastny - Ryan Callahan
TJ Oshie

Ryan Suter - Kevin Shattenkirk
John Carlson - Ryan McDonough
Keith Yandle - Erik Johnson
Cam Fowler

Quick/Miller
Schneider

I started by typing out guys that should definitely be in the top 6. I came up with 7 names, but also realized something.

1. The US has a ton of scoring wingers, not a ton of pass-first players, especially centers. I would have loved a chance to put Kesler on the wing, where his skills are better suited on a stacked team like this, but then that would leave on Pavelski as a natural center and a guy like Ryan, Kane or Parise would have to play there.

2. Phil Kessel is probably the least versatile "star" player in the league, and that it why I left him out of the top 6. I had a hard time finding 2 other players that made me say "that would make a good line". If he is hot going into the olympics, you gotta stick him on the top line. If he's not, is it even worth taking him overseas?

Defence was hard to pick. Not as much high-end talent as the Canadians, but a lot of solid players, especially great skaters. Tried to pair offensive first guys with partners that could cover them, which made it hard to fit Fowler into the top 6.

Quick or Miller in net, can't go wrong. Who ever is playing the best going in I guess.
