Ryan O'Reilly Headed to Offer Sheet or Trade?

From Adrien Dater

Quote:
Hopes were raised Tuesday night among Avalanche fans about the Ryan O'Reilly contract standoff with the team, when it was reported by your humble correspondent that talks still were ongoing after a period of inactivity. Could a resolution finally be at hand?
Sorry, but it doesn't look like it from what I'm hearing. Neither side appears willing to budge.
Quote:
One of the underreported aspects of this standoff is the growing possibility that another team could make O'Reilly a Group II free-agent offer sheet. There are many teams interested in making a deal for O'Reilly, but it's unclear whether the Avs are considering moving him.
If they're not — but another team really wants him — they are free to offer O'Reilly any contract they want. Then the Avs would have their hand forced; either they would have to match the offer or let him go and accept draft picks as compensation.

Nothing terribly new here, but thought it was interesting Dater (Though the Avs are reportedly one of the teams who leak the least info) thought it might be headed toward an offer sheet.

What is the deadline a RFA must be signed by before they are unable to play at all for the season?

Didn't follow this case closely, can anyone please explain where the differences are?
Money? How much does he want?
Or is the term the problem?
Or an organization intern problem?

I'd say he's perfect for an offersheet by the Oilers

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-RoR-Hemsky

The only thing I would worry about is that, the 1st pick they're giving away would be a really high one.

The Oilers are better off drafting high.

It is hard to imagine that the Avs would not match any offer unless it is extraordinarily high in terms of annual salary ($5.5 M +). The Avs have a large amount of cap space and one of the wealthier ownership groups in the NHL. That same ownership group has greenlighted large UFA signings and very high payrolls over the years.

It seems like it would be hard for the Avs' management to ultimately survive not matching an offer sheet with their jobs intact.

The avalanche are not trading him to the oilers. They would face him to many times in a season

yeah Oilers can forget about it, it would be like Vancouver trading Schneider to them

O'Reilly would really be a good fit there because of the leadership he brings. It's funny how the Avs captaincy was between him and Landeskog at one point (fan pov)

Yeah but don't they have an internal salary cap? Have to think that's played a role in these negotiations, especially with Stastny at 6.6 (?) Cap hit.

Would love to see someone offersheet Ryan. I actually think that's what both sides are hoping for. The Avs get to sign Ryan to a pricier long term deal, 4-4.5 per for 5ish, without the other youngsters being able to point to this negotiation in the future since the team was forced into the better. Ryan gets the money and commitment he wants.

Unfortunately I think the chances of him actually getting offersheeted are non-existent, but it would still be the ideal resolution.

Nope. The only problem is Ryan's worried that if he took a bridge deal to he wouldn't get the chance to put up numbers for a big next contract now that Dutchy's healthy and Staz is no longer suffering from his 2011 curse. That and the ******** over the negotiations, but that's not a major long term issue, even with someone as proud as Factor.
