I think Friedman had it in his last 30 Thoughts column, but I remember reading one GM say something about offer sheets like
"After watching Nashville match an offer sheet like Weber's, what's the point of even trying it?"
If someone tries to offer sheet ROR, that solidifies the contract negotiations, and given the choice between not getting the contract they want and losing the player altogether, I think the Avs would have be nuts to let him go.

I think the Avs would match anything up to say $5.25 million, and I don't believe that any team out there is foolish enough to offer him more than that.
He's not going to get offersheeted. The GMs have a gentlemens agreement and they don't want to inflate RFA values. Sherman would be crucified if he offered too much and destroyed the market
I don't see why he hasn't been offer-sheeted already. Not up to speed on the situation but it seems like thats the only way he'll get the money he's looking for. Its just business
It's really simple; for offer sheets especially in this situation you will have to overpay.
Avs will match anything under 5.5.
Anything over 5-5.5+ will give us a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, which any team wouldn't mind taking.

And if they have such agreement ,, Then expect NHLPA to file a lawsuit against NHL for collusion as what you claim is against the law
They should just give him $3.5 for 2 years and be done with it.
They need him, he's a very good player for them, and likely would have been the next Captain had they not drafted Landeskog.

He's probably looking to cash in because he is not confident that he can continue to produce like that. And furthermore, given the glut of high qual centers with the Avs, he may not even be given the opportunity if he performs poorly as there are other centers that can chew up big minutes.

The bolded parts are probably the most accurate.
However, it really is a ridiculous stance for ROR to take seeing as how last year, he was given top minutes based on his performance.
But now, because the relationship soured, he's most probably lost his best linemate, Landeskog, to another center on the avs.
The inclusion of our first round pick this year is going to kibosh any deal for the avs this year.
With so much injury problems, theres no chance we trade 2 assets, who we can retain their rights for yearS, for Kessel.
Dont get me wrong, Kessel is a fine player who would undoubtedly inject some much needed creativity on offense, but the fact we could lose him in a year and a half, makes a gross mismanagement of assets.
Would Bolland/Sharp and a prospect like Morin be enough to bring RoR to Chicago? Hawks don't have a 2nd or a 3rd rounder so don't see them offering picks to Avs
Sharp > RoR IMO
Sharp is struggling this year but he is still a better player

Would love to see someone offersheet Ryan. I actually think that's what both sides are hoping for. The Avs get to sign Ryan to a pricier long term deal, 4-4.5 per for 5ish, without the other youngsters being able to point to this negotiation in the future since the team was forced into the better. Ryan gets the money and commitment he wants.
Unfortunately I think the chances of him actually getting offersheeted are non-existent, but it would still be the ideal resolution.

Unless a team gives him a 2 yr 3.36 per [6.72 million dollar deal], and Av's aren't willing to pay up the extra 1.2 million
Personally, i'd match any offerhseet O'Reilly gets unless we are getting a minimum of Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd in return. We have the cap space to eat it, it won't effect future contract negotiations, and i'm not giving him away for anything less than fair value, which a first, second and third aren't unless they're quite high.
Would love to se the Leafs offer 5.5 x 3/4 with 5 mil signing bonuses on top. If we're going offersheet we may as well make it as hard as possible to match.
