Big crease clearing Dman to Montreal

Not someone too expensive but who can be a #5-6 guy on regular. Montreal has gotten better from last year at not allowing guys to just walk in. It has been a nice relief, it just seems we are lacking 1 or 2 big bodied dman back there. I think Gill was a guy who was someone you miss once he's gone. Gorges and Boullion are really the only ones clear the net efficiently especially for their size.

So is there any on the market and what would each team want for one of theirs.

PS this isn't a result of tonight's game, just been thinking about it for the last 3 games back, especially against Ottawa. With guys like Neil, Smith going to the net easily.

Actually would be a decent guy to have back, really rounded out his game by giving him a chance in Colorado and not being bench or scratched for a mistake.

We have one in Tinordi and I have a feeling you will see him sooner than you think.

Now that we are in a good spot and could possibly try to make the playoffs, Murray would be a definite guy for us.

I don't want to speak on behalf of all Avs fans, but I would guess he could be had for a puck mover type like Yannick Weber.

Cory Sarich. Not an ideal pick up but a good, tough d-man. Could be had for cheap I would imagine as well.

That would be a very perfect trade if the AVs would do that. Montreal has too many puck movers and Weber doesn't look like he is going to get a lot of games maybe 5 if he is lucky. If the AVs wanted to make that deal, I would pull the trigger immediately.

Doug Murray is most certainly available, but not for a puckmover. We have enough as it is (Boyle, Burns, Demers, Braun, Irwin)

Murray can be had for a young 3rd/4th line forward that can score a little. Got any of those?

Nokelainen and Armstrong might be the only ones, Nokelainen being the younger of the two.

Basically someone like a Drew Miller, Andrew Desjardins, Andrew Loktionov caliber of a player.

I'd personally not give him up as he's my favorite Hab player at the moment, Ryan White?

Nokelainen didn't impress me when he was playing in our division.

4th line center grinder, think is 23 or 24. Firecracker type guy, knows his role, hits hard and always finishes checks. Fights and sticks up for his teammates. Goes to the net hard.

Intriguing. I'd have to see him play with my own eyes before I pull the trigger though. I'll keep my eyes on this White character next time I watch the habs.

White is awesome. A bit too emotional at times, but a guy who would be a fan favourite in minutes.

He's not horrible with the puck like most grinders either, but he hasn't scored much at the NHL level.

We'd have to add a pick to white to get Murray for sure.

White plus 3rd. I'd do it would love Murray on the 3rd pair with Diaz.

Markov Emelin
Gorges Subban
Murray Diaz

Good defense well balanced.

Not keen on moving White for a UFA defenseman. White brings a gritty game that the Habs need. O'Byrne would be a great guy to have back, never should have left. Jack Martin is just poison on young hockey players.

I would consider the Murray-like defense addition to be a "luxury" at the moment... there's really nothing wrong with the way the current D is playing. I don't see how taking Bouillon out for a Murray (/Sarich/O'Byrne/etc) type really improves the team overall. Given how Bouillon has played thus far, anyway. Yeah, it would be "nice to have" some big mean crasher out there, but it's really not going to make the team better... just more fun to watch in some ways.

This could of course change, especially with an injury to Emelin, say, or a sudden dropoff from Bouillon. But until that happens, I wouldn't give up futures assets just for a cosmetic change.

Look at signing somebody like Murray in the summer, once Kaberle has moved on (and providing your pro scouts feel like he can still keep up with the game enough to be effective and all that). But again, also have to be wary about what that means for defensemen coming up in the system. Habs won't have Tinordi ready next year, probably, but he's coming. And most of the other D in the group listed above are worth keeping around too. So you may only be looking at another 1-year player, like Bouillon this year, and in that scenario you may not get to pick and choose the best cosmetic match (i.e. some team out there will offer Murray a 3-year deal).

I'd say worry about this later. It's not the time to trade futures for a rental player for the Habs. Sign a player in the summer again, per the Bouillon example. Stay the course.

Something (most likely he's rusty because there was no training camp) happened with ROB and he's been flat out atrocious this season, he was never good with the puck on his stick, but this year he's absolutely terrible and his defensive game took a turn for the worse as well.
