At this stage, if I'm the Avs, he only has to sit out what like 30 games? Just needs to wait 2 more months. Bargaining chip is with RoR IMO, Colorado needs to trade his ass or watch him walk in the offseason.
Would love to se the Leafs offer 5.5 x 3/4 with 5 mil signing bonuses on top. If we're going offersheet we may as well make it as hard as possible to match.
So 21.5 over 3 or 27 over 4... 7.167 or 6.75 average. I'd gladly let the leafs end the O'Reilly saga for their next 2 1sts and a 2nd/3rd in 2013.
We'd retool in this draft alone, hopefully have a sucky enough season that it ends the Sacco era in Colorado and we can finally get this all over with.

He's a RFA without arbitration rights and will have 4 more years before becoming a UFA IF he signs right now, otherwise 5 years if he doesn't sign. Have fun playing anywhere but North America.

It would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Signing bonus doesnt count against cap hit.
After missing four months of hockey to get lower costs, it's very unlikely any GM will challenge the system and try to inflate second contracts by giving O'Reilly an offer sheet that is so big (about $6M/year) that Avs won't match.
Most GMs have an interest in keeping second contracts down. Hence all the comments about Bergeron not having to buy drinks at the next GM meeting for holding his ground with Subban. Avs are doing the same thing here.
So far, I think he'd be the most impressive in the Chicago lineup. I just wish something would happen with the guy already; I really like the game he brings and it seems like a shame to have a talented young guy sit out, from a completely unaffected point of view. I just want to see the kid playing when I watch Avs games on center ice.
I'm actually surprised at this point a team hasn't stepped up and signed him to an OS. Screw it, times up Colorado, poop or get off the pot.
What? According to who...YOU???
Lol, this isn't your negotiation, in fact, unless you're team wants to offer sheet him, move along.
I'd LOVE to see it. Any team that thinks they can give up only a 1st and a 3rd are sorely mistaken.
The Avs would match in the very same way that the Sabres did with Vanek and then SHAKE their heads at the team offering him that contract.
Don't kid yourselves, the Avs are doing the rest of the LEAGUE a favor by not caving in to this poor misguided kid's ludicrous contract demands. Look at ANY star player coming out of Entry Level and compare and the Avs offer is more than fair.
ROR is a good player but anyone giving up a first for him via offer sheet better not be picking in the top 15 or its just not worth it IMO. A contender that can overpay for a 2nd/3rd C would be the best candidate. Ottawa makes the most sense imo

Top 5? Sure. Top 15? If you wouldn't want to give the 10-15th pick for O'Reilly you have not seen O'Reilly play.

Yeah, I saw that Ronaldino guy play soccer. He's really good at kicking the ball and using his head to make plays.

I'd love it if someone offersheets Radar, Avs would match and they could play the ''we were forced to do this'' card and they wouldn't lose leverage with their future RFA's. It's a win-win situation for all parties involved.

I think O'Reilly has quickly become the most over-rated player on these boards (Sharp? Kessel!? Seriously?), but I agree with this completely. Look at the history of guys drafted 6th-15th overall. You'd be happy to have one turn out like RO'R.
Avs, just tell O'Reilly that if he doesn't sign a reasonable offer in the next week, you'll trade him to the Rangers. With Sather's track record of holding RFA's balls to the fire during 2nd contract negotiations (seriously, his final "take it or leave it" offer would likely be about half of whatever Colorado is offering), you'd have O'Reilly in the lineup before you know it.
I think the Avs match any offersheet (reasonably speaking). I doubt O'Reilly plays long for the Avs if that happens though (I suspect he'd be traded over the offseason)
