this

he deserves to be there on merit over a bunch of the Wingers if you ignore position but if he doesn't make it it will be because he just doesn't fit well with all the centers

When players like Tavares/Stamkos could see themselves playing wing.. You see why.

He would be on my Team Canada, but only if he could fit in as a top 6 winger

Tavares - Crosby - x
x - Giroux - Stamkos

The x could be two of Spezza, Eberle, Perry, Nash, Benn or Neal.

Nash is likely a 3rd line guy next to Toews. Perry could probably slot into somewhere as depth. Spezza, Eberle, Benn and Neal would pretty much have to top 6 only guys.

My Team Canada has Eberle on the first line with Crosby and Tavares and Spezza on the second line with Giroux and Stamkos.

Spezza is better than both Giroux and Tavares...though they have the advantage of playing on the wing if necessary.

However, our top 9 could easily look like this:

Neal - Crosby - Perry
St. Louis - Stamkos - Giroux
Nash - Spezza - Tavares

That would be insane, and Spezza deserves the spot.

Just to play devils advocate, Tavares and Stamkos could easily play wing for Canada. Didn't JT play on Spezza's wing at the Spengler Cup?

I don't expect him to make it fwiw.

I don't think tavares should play with Crosby. Crosby is much faster. Plus Tavares basically molds his game after Crosby.

Yes, but both are quite adaptive players who have shown the ability to change their game if need be. They also have the two best hockey sense on the team and I think if they click they could absolutely wreck the league. Add a finisher with speed and a keen hockey sense in Eberle and I think you have the best 1st line for Team Canada since Kariya-Lemiuex-Yzerman in 2002.

Mike Smith is Canadian, and Tim Thomas is probably holed-up in a bunker in Montana living off of canned beans and bottled water. Price's play is on-par with Quick's this year, and Luongo is again a good #2 goaltender for us with the ability to challenge Price for the #1 spot.

Smith is Canadian by the way. Unless there's another Smith I don't know about. I don't see how Howard, Thomas and Schneider are better then our goalies. Hell Schneider hasn't even beaten out Loungo for the no. 1 job in Vancouver. I don't see the American's having a massive advantage in net. I think our own goaltending is becoming underrated. Sure we don't have HOF's like Brodeur or Roy anymore but we certainly don't have the worst goalies around.

I agree, although I'd put Anderson in the top 3, perhaps ahead of Miller or Howard.

Patrice Bergeron will be on this team. Not sure about Seguin tho.

I might be the only one but I think Hall should make the team before Eberle, if Eberle is on your roster there's no reason not to have Hall.

oops.
I must have been thinking of the guy from the Trailer Park.

Price & Luongo are basically the best available goalies for Canada.
Brodeur may be retired by that time & Fleury has been inconsistant.

Personally, if he's healthy when the time comes, i'd want to add him to the team.

There was a long time where he was ignored for fairly good reason, but i think he's matured a lot as a player since then, and is a much more complete center.

He also has shown that he can play well on the big ice, makes his linemates better, and can play special teams. He's also very underrated on the draw, which is important if you're gonna play C on an Olympic Team Canada.

But his lack of versatility to potentially play wing hurts his chances, as does the stigma that he's not defensively committed, fair or not, the stigma still seems to linger.

Is it safe to say Tuukka Rask and Pekka Rinne will be the tandem for Finland?

Other Bruins likely in the Olympics:

Chara - Slovakia
Krejci - Czech Republic
Seidenberg - Germany

I also expect Chiarelli to be involved with Team Canada. Julien has to be on the list of potential coaches.

He doesn't have the offensive upside of Crosby, Giroux, Stamkos or Tavares, but he certainly beats them all in defensive play. He's lead all Canadians 2 years in a row in faceoffs (and was second the year before). Last year he lead the whole league in FO%.

He's pretty much the ideal 3rd line center for Canada. Near PPG, league best in FO% and excellent defensive play.
Just so we are clear, you are saying that the guy who, as a 21 year old, led the last Olympic team in scoring doesn't have the offensive upside to play in the top 6?

Anyways, regardless of what nominal "line" he is on, I would be willing to wager he will be among the top 2 centres in ice time (if not the top). He will also definitely be playing centre, there are many others that will be moved to the wing before Toews.

Love the fact that the guys on Vancouver 1040 are more or less saying it is a slam dunk that Luongo is the starting goalie

Right now Price and MAF are in the lead in my opinion

MAF? I hope he starts..since I am an American fan.

Luongo won gold in 2010 and is still one of the best in the league, I don't see what has changed since then.

Normally i would have Toews as my #2 C (total lock), but i hate the idea of shifting Stamkos to the wing. I don't like the idea that Canada's leading goal producer over the last 3 seasons is going to do a position shift.

A top 3 Cs of

Cros
Stam
Toews

is well ,just flat out nuts.

I have less issue moving Giroux to wing, seeing how he has already done that at the pro level and did not look out of place.
