Are the trade restrictions wrt matching an offer sheet 1 year from the time of the signing, or are they simply "that season" i.e. until July 1 (or 5 in this case)?

Anyone have a feeling for what the Avs could/would do in the case of a Weber-esque, heavily cash expensive offer that's mostly bonus money? The cap obviously isn't an issue, but how flexible would they be in dealing with a huge cash payout over a short period of time? Not that many GM's are willing to do it, apparently, just curious.

gotta think Gillis is giving a lot of thought to an offer sheet here, as reportedly they were going to offer sheet Benn if a Luongo deal had been made, gotta think Gillis won't miss his guy twice

I didn't even realize I was wrong. Jeez. You're just a real chipper fellow.

Anyways, I just messed up the numbers anyway. I'm taking an idea from poster DragLikePull from Pension Plan Puppets: http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/20...t-ryan-oreilly

Basically set it up so its an AAV of 5.96 mil, so yes 1st,2nd, and 3rd.

1st year: 8.5 Salary + 7.5 Signing Bonus
2nd year: 7.8 Salary + 6.8 Signing Bous
3rd year: 5 Salary
4th year: 4.25 Salary
5th year: 4.25 Salary

Boo ya.

Well we have a guy on the inside, who said O'Reilly wouldn't sign an offer sheet.

@Brs03 if someone is dumb enough to give him Weber type of money, the avs would take the pick laughing as they do it. My preference is still Stastny gets traded and Ryan signs long term.

Not Weber money, but a Weber-style deal where it's basically all signing bonus, which means it's not prorated and you pay it out in huge lump sums. Basically make it a much less pleasant financial matter for the Avs, even if the cap situation is comfortable (and it's still in the 1/2/3 realm of compensation or whatever). Just curious where the Avs would likely draw the line there.

I know, I'm just messing around, I can't see what would Bergevin offer to Colorado that would entice them to move Radar and on top of that Habs just had a lenghty contract dispute with the agency that represents Radar.

Avs are making money. You can't design an offer sheet where they won't match because they couldn't afford to.

The only way Avs won't match is because the cap hit is so big that the value of the compensation is higher than the value of O'Reilly at that inflated salary.

They did, but I really doubt Bergevin wants to add more of Meehan's clients.

Ben la! WTF are you suppose to do with that kind of depth... Yes it would be nice for STL but you cant re-sign all that youth. Most likely Schwartz (Spelling) would have to be involved in the deal

Ryan O'Reilly has said that he would like to play for the Bruins someday. It's a shame we can't afford him unless we deal out key players or find a creative way to let go of the expensive third liners ( Peverley and Kelly ).

Dougie and your 1st?

Or is Hamilton already considered a key player?

I don't think the Bruins are looking to add another center. Especially not O'Reilly when they've got Bergeron.

Just out of curiosity, what would you be looking for from the habs?

Gorges would need to be involved.

Correct, I don't think they are either especially for what RoR is speculated to be asking for.

The cap is going down, Edler and Burrows will both have increased salaries, and they will have several roster spots to fill. Could they afford to pay O'Reilly the type of contract the Avs could not afford? Doubtful. Oh, and Kassian is an RFA in 2014. Would not be a smart idea on the Canucks part

It's secondhand info, so maybe I shouldn't have posted it. It's been discussed on the Bruins forum. I'm sure there's other players who would like to play for X team that they currently aren't on, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are actively pushing to go to said team.

TBH I dont see the habs being involved at all. They would not cave for Subbans contract demands, and they wouldnt for O`Reilly.
