* The Capitals and Kings have had a few discussions surrounding goaltender Jon Bernier (e2). The Caps aren't willing to move what the Kings want to this point however. LA is smart to hold this chip as long as they can.

the above is what he wrote so its bernier hes in talks with there according to him

They should make a rule on HFBOARDS.com that says if the post starts "I know it's only Eklund but" it shouldnt be posted.

The main HF board has it as a sticky 'confirmed' and

Tim Thomas traded to Islanders for conditional 2nd in '14 or '15

What's with the Islanders and getting players who don't want to play there?

I'm sure the condition is something like Thomas playing a game, and considering how doubtful that is, it's basically an exchange of Boston giving NYI cap filler for nothing.

Unless Boston needs the extra cap to go out and make a big deal where they absorb a big cap hit, this is nothing more than a money shedding deal. I'm sure the condition is that Thomas plays this year, and everyone knows he's not going to. After this season he's a UFA anyways. This is basically the Bruins owner saving some money while helping the Islanders stay above the cap floor because Boston is never getting that 2nd round pick.

On a side note, can someone explain to me how trading for a guy who says he's not playing this year in order to stay above the cap floor isn't cap (floor) circumvention?

Oh, I read more. Seems as though he has to play 1 game and/or report to the team in order for the 2nd to be dealt.

The Islanders needed to be cap compliant, so they needed to add salary. I suppose the good thing about Thomas' contract is that it will keep them afloat to move players at the trade deadline without having to look to add even more salary if they were to make a trade. I don't know how full up their roster is, but it also keeps them from adding another player to the locker room if they have no one they want to send down. Just have to see how it plays out.

According to McKenzie, the condition is that Thomas plays, so technically they got him for "free". If he plays next year, the Islanders still own his rights too, so they would have paid a 2nd for Thomas to actually play for them. It is kind of smart.

Have to give the Islanders credit for finding ways to circumvent the cap. If he ever wants to play again he'll have to go there and that would be to their benefit, so either way, they win.

So what do you guys think we do at the deadline? Go after Iginla or at this point are we more worried about getting some defensive depth? I don't see Willie being back anytime soon, unfortunately. =/

I like the main board with the talk of Richards somehow being involved in a deal for Kessel.

Not. Going. To. Happen.
