Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Mariners have agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract extension with right-handed starter Felix Hernandez.

I don't think you realize how much money MLB makes, especially when the new TV contracts kick in.

LOL. $25 million is a 5-6 year contract for a lot of good NHL players. In MLB, that's only an annual salary.

Mariners future on the mound is bright with 1 of the best pitchers in the game and the big young trio (Walker, Hultzen, Paxton).

But as of Sunday afternoon, sources say, the Mariners and Hernandez are not close to finishing an extension, because there are issues that the two sides are sorting through.

The elbow issue is perceived by at least one of the parties in the deal as being a possible impediment to the completion of the new contract.
