Kent Simpson has got his SV% above .900 in the ECHL (.901). It was around .885 the last time I checked.

I don't think Simpson's going to be a good starting goaltender in the NHL, but he could be a quality back-up. He just needs time. He's big, athletic and from the sounds of it technically sound.

I never thought much of Simpson. I think NHL back-up is a stretch, I think he is a tweener/ 3rd goalie, someone who could fill in in the NHL if a goalie goes down but probably won't be in the NHL on a daily basis.

The Hawks site has an interview with Vince Hinostroza up right now.

http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news....id=DL|CHI|home

He's one point away from tying Joe Pavelski's USHL career points total, and a few goals/assists away from being top 10 all-time in Waterloo's history, but his opportunities to do both have been delayed six weeks due to breaking his arm.

Like I've said it before, I'm trying not to think too much of him until I see him play at Notre Dame next year, but it seems like every time I read about this guy, I come away even more impressed. I heard him called a great dark horse pick a lot when he was drafted, and it's really starting to look that way.

This doesn't have anything to do with current prospects but man, Tallon was so bad at drafting.

2005 - 12 picks - came away with Hjalmersson. Skille the only other guy with over 100 NHL starts

2006 - 9 picks - Toews at 3 but the other 8 players never played in the NHL

2007 - 7 picks - Kane at 1 no other player became a regular NHL player

2008 - 7 picks - Ben Smith has played 19 games, no other players hvae any NHL games

Seeing how he was fired on July 14, 2009. I am unsure how much say he had in the 2009 draft that took place 2 weeks earlier.

Just brutal

That really is awful. Wow.

Does anyone know how much the scouting staff changed from Tallon's years til now? Are a lot of the same? Completely different staff? I'd be curious to know.

Did he draft Gudbranson? Its too soon for a lot of his picks to see the NHL.

I know that it's too soon. Just interested if he already has a better draft record with them than he had with us

I mean...Toews and Kane were no brainers. We were horrible at drafting talent.

Yep, Tallon was a pretty awful drafter. Take away Toews and Kane and he only drafted one NHL caliber player in Niklas Hjalmarsson. Jack Skille's a tweener.

Kyle Beach could still be a 4th line agitator.. but that's pretty sad given his draft status.

Phillip Danault and the Wildcats are going to be facing off against Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin and the Mooseheads tonight on Sportsnet Friday Night Hockey. Game starts at 7:00 or 7:30 (not sure which). Should be a very good game.

For those of us in the U.S., we can watch the Danault game tomorrow at 11AM on NHLnetwork... they will show the game with no intermissions so it is only 2 hours.

Last night Kent Simpson stopped 32 of 33 for a 2-1 win. Continues to stay hot and it is really nice to see. He was absolutely brutal for the 10-15 games and it was really annoying because Mrazek and the other guy Pierce were badly outplaying him and I was afraid he would continue to not even get a 50/50 split with Pierce. But now Pierce is gone and he is sharing time with Spratt who has yet to get a start...but Simpson hasn't given him a chance because of how well he has played.

A couple weeks ago Simpson had like a .887 SV%, but now his statline:
13-9-3, 2.45 GAA, .905 SV%

Nothing special, but you have to consider where it was before. I hope he continue to build on this hot streak and maybe something has clicked for him. If Simpson or Carruth can both improve then maybe we have a couple good goalie prospects. Remember, Crawford and Niemi didn't really get it all together until they were 25/26 years old. Simpson and Carruth are just 20 and 21 years old respectively so they can hopefully keep getting better in the ECHL/AHL. It would be nice to have a couple good goalie prospects on Rockford to help them win some games and maybe even get into the playoffs(well, that might be too much wishful thinking).

What does it matter where he plays in the NHL now? They're celebrating an ex-Hog, not an ex-Hawk.

You pointed out that he was on the Kings now - as in, not on the Hawks - and followed it up with a "wtf".

Two time StanleyCup CHA'H'MP!

It's odder since he was only a Hog 1 year.

Carruth is second in save% behind Tristan Jarry. Jarry is draft eligible this year and replaced Fucale, slotted at #10 by Button in his latest rankings where Fucale gave up 3 goals at the HH top prospects game.

I remember HF50 saying pretty early in the season that he loved Tristan Jarry and preferred him over Fucale. Interesting to see Jarry rising and Fucale being questioned.

If Jarry's available after our first pick, grab him and don't think twice. We need more promising goalie prospects.

Outside of Simpson, Stan has only taken goalies in the 7th round. He'll probably have to break that habit to get Jarry, but you never know. Last May you would've been crazy to think Brandon Whitney would still be around in the 7th.
