Man I feel bad for Islander fans. Snow and Wang would rather give up a very valuable draft pick instead of signing a good player.
Stipulation is probably that TT would have to play X amount of games for that pick to go through to Boston.

Snow & Wang's explanation;

So, conditional pick in 2014 if he plays goal next season and conditional pick in 2015 if he doesn't play goal and his job is to keep Nassau Coliseum safe from bears*?

*Bears can smell the menstruation.

The Islanders were already $4million over the cap floor.

Per Bob McKenzie:
Quote:
The Boston Bruins only get a draft pick from the Islanders for Tim Thomas if he reports to them or any other team if NYI trade his rights
Quote:
Otherwise, the benefit for BOS is gaining cap space Thomas was eating up because he's on a 35+ contract. Counts against cap no matter what.
Quote:
Which is ideal for NYI. No acquisition price. NYI can toll contract to next year if they like, continue to get cap benefit in perpetuity.
Quote:
Or NYI can let contract expire at end of season and be done with it. Their call. Thomas has no intent to return to play at this time.

Do the Islanders fans who keep pointing out that they were above the floor before really expect TT to play? They`d certainly deserve a player to change his mind towards playing after being traded to the Isles after the trend was definitely going in the opposite direction.

This makes some sense, NYI needs to make the cap floor.

I'd ignore that post. Most Bruins fans appreciate what he did and don't care what his political views are, or why he sat out. It was/is confusing, but whatever.

No doubt at all, no chance they win it without him. I guess battling for years to even make the NHL, become a regular, long stints in Europe, believing in yourself, setting records, ending a 39 year Cup drought, and being one of the main reasons hockey is relevant again in Boston, all these reasons are not enough for some fans to give a guy a year off, regardless of his reasons. Kinda sad, really.

Tim Thomas is a FA? So he's not going to play for the Islanders next season? Or are they going to force him like they did Nabby 2 years ago when they decided to be jerks and nab him from the Wings?

Seems like pretty obvious cap circumvention.

If that is the case, if he decides to come back we can either trade him or send him to the ECHL. lol

Islanders will have the choice. They can toll the contract and keep him next year for a $5 million cap hit and $3 million in actual salary or they can let it run out and he would be a UFA. Hard to predict what Wang and Snow would do.

I kinda forgot about it with the lockout but this is a good question. What are the in-season deadlines for cap compliance this year?

McKenzie says if they trade him the Islanders still have to give up the pick if he plays for someone else. I imagine they just let the contract run out as Thomas is not coming back this year.

How would he be a dick to them? Do you mean the Islanders because it's them who would have to forfeit the 2nd round pick.
