I'd love it if Timmy dressed for the Islanders against the Bruins (home game) as the back up so we could give him a final good bye and get a very good draft pick.

Good luck Timmy, wherever you go. Always going to be my favorite Bruins goalie of all time.

Great move by Chiarelli to remove dead money from the payroll. The team can now pursue any option they want at the deadline. Great asset management under weird circumstances.

The Islanders have a good nucleus of young players to build around.

Can Garth Snow entice Timmy to join them for a couple of years?

I honestly think that should the flames become sellers at the deadline, it won't be too hard to get Iggy for a pick and a prospect.

So is Long Island now the official goalie graveyard?

Uh the best thing he can do is have Thomas never play again... they can just keep tolling his contract to the next year.

It's pretty ingenius. Effectively, this deal allows the Islanders to lower the cap floor for themselves forever by $4M. Well probably not forever - more like until someone files a grievance with the NHL and alleges cap circumvention, which is obviously what this deal is.

I'll admit that I didn't think anyone would trade for Thomas' cap hit. Looks like the Isles did just that.

So it sounds like they have until July to decide to toll it.

Yep. But only for a conditional pick and the condition seems like a real stretch to happen so really the Islanders are giving nothing.

This is great, we get an asset back with the pick and clear up cap space for an acquisition later this year.

I hope TT reports--not only for the draft pick, but because I'd love to get a ticket to his return to give him a standing ovation.

I know he needs to play a game for the Islanders in order for the Bruins to get the pick. But my question is Tim Thomas got traded to a team that might just keep tolling his contract to maintain above the cap floor. What is the drop dead date the Thomas has to just report to get credit for the year and become an UFA? In the NFL you need to report before week 10 to get a year credit. Don't have to play a game just report back to your team.

The Islanders make the deal to get further above the floor so they can trade away salary if they ever want to sell and the king of cheap Wang doesn't have to pay anything to Thomas. Unfortunately I just can't see Thomas playing for the Islanders unless they really are willing to give up a second for a full year of Thomas for $3 million salary next year.

Thank You Tim Thomas from this Bruins fan, you will never be forgotten. I am pleased they now have the cash flex for deadline additions and they will be needed you can bet on that. Stephen Weiss come on down!

Right.. except the Bruins have the space right now so if Chia wanted to, he could get a rental top-6 forward THIS season.

anyways, I love Tim Thomas and I wish him nothing but the best in life. With his friends, family and faith. Nothing but the best
He was without a doubt one of, if not the best goalie the Bruins have ever had. *salutes*

In past years when people suggested it, it just didn't make sense b/c with years left on his contract he'd have cost way too much. But his price will never be lower than it will be this year so it's definitely something that's within reason.

Despite not agreeing with his world views, Thomas was one of my all-time favorite Bruins and he's probably the most entertaining goalie I've ever seen.

Funny...I was lambasted here when I said Chia would do this. "No team needs to hit the cap floor"...
